My wife and I are visiting Belgium/France for the start of the Tour de France, I thought it would be rude not to stop off in the Champagne region.

This will be a very, very quick visit so what would be a suitable place to visit? A full on tour/tasting session is out of the question sadly but I'd love to stop somewhere to at least get a feel of the place.

Veuve or Moët if you want the fancy tour at a big name.

Look up Forrest Marie (you need to phone and book in advance) if you want to see a white label producer. Their fizz is bloody good and very competitively priced.

A 'must-do' when visiting the area is a spin past the old track at Reims:

I'd recommend Ariston Fils - lovely Champagne and a beautiful location. It's a small vineyard where you'll be shown around by a member of the family, probably the daughter in law as she is the main English speaker.

We've never stayed there but they have some rooms which get good reviews.
