cycling from east london to croydon
Discussion
so I have the misfortune of having to work in Croydon for a week shortly.
I've got to be there for about half 9 in the morning give or take.
now my client apparently has secure bike parking (but who knows what the truth is)..
on day one I am therefore thinking about going on the brompton and if they have cocked it up at least I can take it up with me to the office.
I'll be coming from east london so will probably cross the river at either london bridge or tower hill and go through the 'phant and castle. Or I could go straight down to the isle of dogs and go under the foot tunnel and go straight down through beckenham way?
how long will this take me in the morning roughly?

Why get a train?
Indeed! Depending on what part of East London and what part of Croydon, that's somewhere between 12 and 18 miles each way, give or take.I might get the train on day 1, as that feels like quite a schlep on a Brompton, but other than that, even with bad traffic and lights it shouldn't take more than 1 hour 20 or so, and quite possibly less if the OP is fitter and lighter than I am!

thanks chaps - I hate getting the train like a rat(it would take about an hour anyway on the train), I get the exercise, and I get to expense it at 20p a mile.
£3.60 each way probably wouldn't be the main reason I'd do it
I'd definitely be riding it though, shouldn't be too bad and you'll probably be going the opposite way to most.even on the brompton I'm getting an average time of 1hr 15 on the way in and 1hr 5 on the way back (its more downhill).
One thing that is TOTALLY f
king me off is the standard of driving in south london. Without wishing to sound un-pc there seems to be a certain type of gentleman(all driving a broadly similar type of car) who approach pulling out of a side road (anywhere south of brixton) thus:
1) approach junction
2) look to see if its clear
3) see me approaching
4) stick the nose of their car out 3m in the road directly in my path
5) look at me as if to say - what are you going to do about it
6) dependant on how nice their car is: i) continue with the manoeuvre irrespective of how close I am to hitting their car, or ii) simply sit there expecting me to go around their car, whilst they give me an evil look/kiss their teeth
7) in the event of ii) occurring they then make a point of overtaking me at about 60mph (in a residential area) and then, without indication, cut across my path turning left, once again, without regard to how close I am to their car when executing the manoeuvre.
I can only assume that in certain countries this sort of driving is part of the standard driving test, because it certainly wasnt when I learnt to drive 12 year ago. The above has happened several times every day over the past 3 days.

This happens a lot in Leytonstone too. One thing that is TOTALLY f

But they do it to cars too: it's not because you're a cyclist.
