Bought new gaming PC - what games must I buy?
Discussion
I've just ordered one of these (but with an ivybridge i7 and a few upgrades):

after not having a proper gaming PC for years, just a PS3 recently, so the big question is, which games must I absolutely immediately buy!
PS, I used to like strategy, FPS and driving games.

Mass Effect (all of them)
GTA 4 (even if you had it on console, get a car pack mod)
Have you tried WoW?
no?
DON'T
Steam will be having their summer sale soonish so keep an eye out. I bought about 8 games for the cost of one console game at Christmas
I'm mostly into shooters and driving sims myself and would recommend
Crysis 1
Metro 2033
Battlefield 3
Red Orchestra 2 (really good after some updates)
Arma 2 (get the DayZ mod)
rFactor
Race 07
iRacing
Dirt3
Project Cars
The Dead Space and Batman games are great on pc too.

I have a very similar spec, although 2 x 460GTX 1GB. It will eat any recent games.
In no particular order;
Skyrim - if you missed it on console.
Max Payne 3
Deus Ex 3
Batman Arckham City & Asylum
Left for Dead 2
Fallout series - if you missed them on console.
RAGE - if you can get it cheap. The game is flawed and too small but graphics are amazing.
Crysis games for great graphics.

Boarderlands ( just shooting stuff )
Red Faction ( just shooting stuff )
Bulletstorm ( just shooting stuff )
Alice:Madness Returns ( weird and lasts for bloody ages )
Amnesia:The Dark Descent ( will put the willies up you )
Rage ( a bit short )
Bioshock 1 & 2 ( old now but excellent )
My favourite at the moment is Xotic and it's only £5.99 on Steam.
I'd not waste your money on Max Payne 3, because whilst it will show off your new PC's capabilities very well, you are likely to fall asleep as you just watch endless cut scenes.

Also TF2 is free if you joint Valve's Steam I do believe. Well worth it, Steam is also by far the best way of buying games. No need to leave the house or wait for the postman any more, and it magically keeps everything up to date and you save games safe.

Portal then Portal 2
And as mentioned, for RTS Supreme Commander, preferably the Forged Alliance update, but not under any circumstance Supreme Commander 2
