Taking my brother for a quick blat round the block in my newly acquired S2 I suddenly found myself unable to select any gears when sat at some lights
Pumping the clutch didn't help - had a quick peek and no fluid in the reservoir. Fortunately we were opposite a garage, and unbelievably just topping it up and pumping the clutch got it feeling nice and firm again and got us home - phew!
The previous owner mentioned that he had a problem with the hydraulics at some stage but bleeding the clutch seemed to sort it. Couldn't see any fluid loss around the master cylinder so I am assuming it is a seal in the slave - how easy is it to get to? It managed a 200 mile drive home from the previous owner on Thursday, so it can't be completely mullered!
Thoughts? (especially given that it didn't need bleeding weirdly! Does that suggest a particular fault?). If it's going to be a pain I will get it looked at when I take it in for a service.
Thanks in advance!

There have been quite a few posts on clutch hydraulics recently. Here’s some of them to be getting on with.

Clutch slave cylinder seals were replaced Dec 2009, would have thought they would last longer, check for leaks from the rigid pipe between master and slave cylinders in the first instance. if no joy with them i would suggest the best bet is a new, replacement, cylinder. I wouldnt try new seals again!!

I've fitted the new, cheaper, land rover components on my S2 and can confirm they can be fitted with the car up on axle stands and with only limited mechanical experience. You are correct that the threads will not fit the existing copper piping so I had a new hydraulic pipe made up by Pirtek using braided flexi-hose and the correct ends for the LR parts. The flexi-hose was the relatively expensive part at approx £40 but it does make available for use the very cheap and readily available LR parts mentioned on the threads above. As such it probably makes this replacement work out about the same cost but possibly reduces the cost in the future should the slave or master need replacing in a few years time?
Well I'm going to order some bits - if it looks like I might make a horlicks of it I'll get it booked in, but just want to drive it at the mo.
Don't want to overcompliuate thingsx o I am going to order the correct slave, but I am thinking of getting a flexi hose to replace the copper pipe. What connections do I need on either end to connect to the original master/slave, and where could I get one from?

Hi my two penneth, alt nipple is available from car builder solutions for pence then use the landy part. P&P will actually be more than the part hey ho order something else to make it worth while
Re rigid pipe most are circa 20 years old testament that it works! That said I made my own flexi well actually made up by PIRTEK hydraulic specialists (cost about £30) looked great, its on here as a thread somewhere.
Good luck which ever route you choose

In this thread:

davedogfish states that the part number for the slave is 74660035 (Girling)
However, here:
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/Gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
junglieD states it is 74066169 (Lucas). (This also appears in the old PH S-Series parts guide - http://www.pistonheads.com/tvr/s/default.asp?story... )
What I need to know is:
What are the part numbers for slave & master cylinder used on my S2? I don't want to replace the master as yet, but need to know what it is so I can ask PowerTrack to send me a flexible hose in case it is that that is mullered.

Hi
Found this on the bay don't pay silly money there is no need. Item number 320641670734 also gives the landy part number 591231 nipple required is 7/16 for Car Builder Solutions.
Also put 591231 in search field and its all there.

Cheers Damon.
If I go for that I need somebody to make me up a flexi hose from my Girling master cylinder to that slave.
The trouble is, I don't know what fittings/pipe diameter I need for the pipe so not sure what to ask for when I get it made up
Feel like I am going around in circles. Just want to drive the thing!
