Is it wise to do the Manchester to Blackpool ride on a MTB?

Having not been out on my bike for about 12 months, i've decided in my infinite wisdom to do the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride with my 2 nephews next month.

I've got a Specialized Rockhopper Comp and keep myself relatively fit all year round, but am i going to suffer doing this instead of on a road bike? The ride is about 60 miles i think.

Nope, will be fine. did the L2B last year on an old MTB, sore butt afterwards but that's all.

Fit some slick or semi-slick tyres and a pair of cheap bar ends and the bike will be more than sufficient.

Im doing it with my girlfriend - first time for both of us. She will be on a hardtail MTB with slick tyres, and I'll be using my on one inbred single speed.....

You will be fine. A Postie does the Bristol to London ride on his standard issue royal mail bike which is near enough double the distance.
