Morning

Just a quick question.

Background: 6,000 miles. 2 months out of dealership and I am second owner. Told that it was "never tracked"...but if it wasnt doesnt bother me as it was made for the track and was well maintained

Reversing out of parents driveway at the weekend....first time there....required lots of revs and resulted in smoke and smell of burnt clutch

The driveway is very steep with a 90degree turn at the steepest part requiring holding the car on the clutch and the car was being started from cold.

I have done this 100s of times in many cars and never experienced that smell but this is the first time I have done so in a GT3 style car

Is this normal for a GT3 clutch? the car bites perfectly in forward gears with no sign of slipping and doesnt require any accelator in 1st or reverse when on the flat.

It is possible that this is due to the resistance of the lsd, together with the effect of the Ackerman angle (suspension geometry), as neither react well to lots of lock at slow speeds particulary when reversing uphill. I would suggest either reversing into the drive or parking on the road next time.

I've heard that GT3s can be grumpy in reverse, although I haven't witnessed it myself. Can you reverse in and drive out forwards more easily perhaps?

you probably just smoked the clutch and nothing more.
are you getting any buzzing or vibration when driving at all? i know its hard to tell if the car is new to you but hows clutch engagement both in pedal feel and physical pick up when driving?

It is my second GT3 and third 911 box and feels fine during regular and agressive driving and I have never smelt the clutch like that before and only ever experienced it on this driveway.

Dont get the clutch judder that is talked about and car pulls away in first and second without any need for accelerator on the flat

I had to reverse my 7.1 GT3 up a friend's steep, twisting driveway at his parents place in Somerset. The air stank of clutch afterwards despite by best efforts to minimise slip. GT3s can be a little smokey on startup but this should clear within a few seconds of start. They are also prone to some judder in reverse, apparently due to the diff; all normal.
