I spent ages sandpapering the number tab on the engine so I could se it and the engine number is:-

M96/01-66X-07611.

Now, I just read the service book (properly) and the sticker inside thr front cover has engine number:-

M96/01-66X A9600

Does that mean its had a replacement engine? Is there any way of finding out, and if so, when it was done?

Thanks

I had a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche with the wrong engine number on it - two numbers transposed. Eventually they sent out a new one at no cost.

Not as different as your numbers, of course, but be sure to have Porsche double and triple check numbers when you speak to them.

I wouldn't call a replacement engine a 'worry' - more like a bonus!

I know the V5C was wrong (hopefully corrected now), but thought the C of A was ok?

Just great isn't it? I had an 1970 911T with a PCNA C of A that had the last digit of engine number wrong - a 2 instead of a 0 (or vice versa, I forget now), which appeared to have been a typo (0 & 2 being next to each other on a keyboard number pad) and I had to get in touch with them in the USA to get a new one sorted out.

When you taking it on track? smile
