Discussion
I have a 2009 Cannondale Bad Boy that I got on the cheap for commuting. The rear wheel keeps popping spokes. Did 3 the first time I rode it, gave the wheel to Evans who replaced 9 and rebalanced. Just ridden to college this morning and there's another spoke gone.
So, should I continue to replace spokes or just buy a new wheel? Why do they keep breaking, any thoughts? If a new wheel is a more sensible option, any suggestions as to what kind? I'm new to bikes without suspension and 2.5 inch tyres so in need of some sage wisdom from PH!
Thanks.

the mechanic is a ham fisted baboon and cant build whels for toffee. he is obviously not doing something right so dont bother wasting any more time getting it replaced by evans, get merlin to build you a 105 hub on mavic open pro and you shouldn't have any issues
Merlin don't do custom road wheel builds: I've asked them before for that exact same spec.I'm about 11.5 stone so don't think that should be an issue. I'll look into the above mentioned set up but I'm on a budget....
I'm going to go shout at Evans tomorrow as since I posted the original message another two spokes have gone (cycled 7 miles on city roads to get home from college) and this includes on of the new ones.

When one spoke goes, suddenly the demands on the remaining spokes increase and with it the likelihood of other spokes snapping...and so on...I'm going to go shout at Evans tomorrow as since I posted the original message another two spokes have gone (cycled 7 miles on city roads to get home from college) and this includes on of the new ones.
I'm no wheel builder, but it's been badly built. Don't waste your time with Evans: find a "proper" bike shop

This makes total sense, but does that mean I should keep the rim and replace all the spokes of ditch the rim to be safe?I'm no wheel builder, but it's been badly built. Don't waste your time with Evans: find a "proper" bike shop

A "proper" bike shop in Edinburgh? Not likely mate! The bike station is ok, but I've tried half a dozen or so of the other well known indies and there have been without exception, SHI1TE. At least Evans don't have the cheek to charge outrageous prices foe half-arsed work.
If anyone has had good experiences with an Edinburgh based shop, I'd love to hear about it.

Unfortunately not Edinburgh, but Glasgow-based folk swear by Big Al at Wheelcraft in Lennoxtown. I've never used him myself as I build my own, poorly! Steve at I-Cycles in Innerleithen is also someone I've heard recommended but that's more DH/MTB stuff.A "proper" bike shop in Edinburgh? Not likely mate!
