Not sure whether this is a good or a bad thing, after i did the front 1/4 infills i got carried away and completely covered the underside of the engine bay.. but i do not know what it is doing to the cars aero or the airflow through the engine bay...advice please..

This is why I love reading the Noble forums on PH!Its not that much different to what was done in factory, there was a small cut out just local to the tunnel and cut out for the sump but i'm not sure if that front triangle played a part for engine bay cooling.
I think i have pretty good engine bay cooling, much more places for the air to exit from the rear of the car..so i honestly did not think i was going to be affecting airflow in engine bay that much..but just wondered if anybody knew exactly what effect it has..

You cant just say something like that and walk away...
...come on tell me what effect it has...All i know is over 70mph the back end feels a lot more stable and planted..i imagine its like putting a flight on a dart..

I would have thought the faster moving air under the car would pull the hot air down and out from around the front turbo. Could be wrong but you sure will have made the engine bay hotter.
I was thinking about this..I was pretty sure about what phil confirmed in that the completelty flat underside is a good thing for airflow under the car..but i was trying to get a mental picture of what happens to the airflow from the engine bay..so then i thought about the tunnel cooling and it would mean that the air exiting the rear of the tunnel would just get pulled straight down and under so offering no benefit to airflow and cooling around the front turbo due to a negative pressure area around front turbo...at this point i am only taking into account airflow with windows closed, so that no air is trying to get pulled into the tunnel from the engine bay..I think there could be more to this than first appearances..
Maybe the tunnel cooling from the front of the car will work better now?
If air was getting pulled down from there then that would create negative pressure around the front turbo and try to pull air from the back...i.e reversing the airflow.
From previous discussions on airflow through engine bay, it was deemed that we need positive pressure front and negative at rear, so that air comes in travels back and out the rear and all flows in the same direction therefore eliminating the turbulent air...
The same thoughts crossed my mind with regards to engine bay cooling but for me its just best guessing...way i saw it is all the air comes in from the side pods and tunnel and top vents behind windows...when linked to good negative pressure behind the car and lots of good airflow exit points, the air should flow from front to rear, i did all the rear end aero mods so there should be no reason for the air to stall..in theory it makes sense and should work, i also blocked off the battery access hole with a removable access panel..
Also i thought about the reasoning behind aluminium diffuser, in that the aluminium is very good at transfering heat so it gets taken away with airflow from underside of car...so although blocked from underneath it still allows the transfer and removal of heat without messing with the engine bay airflow..

Anyway, I'm just not convinced these mods can do much when they're complete guesswork. Manufacturers (big proper ones) spend so much time testing every surface for aerodynamic effects, hours of computer simulations, wind tunnel work, it just seems unlikely you can just stick something on that "looks about right" and gain much if any benefit. It's not like you really have a choice though, simulation and testing is difficult and expensive, that's why Noble didn't really do it.
But if you say it feels better in not going to argue... Could be entirely psychosomatic though.
I don't want to upset anyone, just airing my thoughts in the politest way possible. For me.
Unless of course they "carbon dip" something, then they can bite my shiny metal ass.

I understand we can only discuss what effect mods should have in theory..but that all i want to be honest...all the mods i do are measured by seat of the pants and i must admit i am quite finely tuned to these cars now and i can feel the slightest of changes..
This is a bit more difficult though, so i'm hoping somebody will have a bit of insight to confirm or dispel/contest my assumptions..

I think it works both ways. Just because noble didn't do it doesnt make it crap! Why didn't noble raise the rear wing 90mm? Why didn't they do a fast back? These have proven to be better than the noble design.
k do that , Nobel have spent best part of 30 quid developing the underside airflow of your car With all respect unless you have access to either a wind tunnel, are a race car designer/engineer or have actually tried and tested it who knows what impact it might have.
As chris mentioned above it might actually force air through the engine bay rather then going under the car. Plus its going to reduce drag.
Im pretty sure the openings in the undertray are there for access not to cool the engine bay.... also pretty sure any airflow through them will be coming from the underside into the engine bay not the other way around.
I short Im planning the same when I make my carbon undertray with removable panels to get to oil change rather than openings... I want air under the car to exit via the rear diffuser not through the engine bay.
