2005 Masers
Subtle updates for next years cars
Maserati have released details fo the 2005 versions of the Maserati Coupé and Spyder. They'll be available from September this year across the UK.
The main change externally is to the front bumper which now features a horizontally ribbed radiator grille, inspired by the Quattroporte. The rear bumper is also new and more dynamic featuring wide air intakes shielded by a black mesh grille.
The link with the Quattroporte continues in the Coupé with the classic oval-and-arrow badge now mounted on the rear side panels, as styled by Frua in 1963.
The interior of the Coupé and Spyder can now be contrasted with different coloured leathers for the central zone of the seats and dashboard, and the upper door panels. The instruments now feature new, sporty, blue and white graphics that are easier to read.
Seven-spoke alloy wheels are now standard to the cars while the fifteen-spoke rims remain an optional extra.
The aluminium-coloured kit on the console and the door will now be a standard item, and other modifications have been made to the interior with the central tunnel re-designed to provide a bigger storage compartment.
The final change is the announcement that Coupé and Spyder models now have a new metallic paint finish option with the addition of ‘Rame Ghibli’.
Far more interested in the Grantura (the 4200 Assetto Corsa effectively), then hopefully soon we'll start to see sketches of the coupe replacement which will surely be due 2006.....
Liking them more by the day!
The Quattroporte is the most pig-nosed ugly looking sedan I have ever seen. I had hoped that when I saw it in the flesh (or metal, if you want to be precise) it would look better, but alas, no, I still wanted to throw up at the insult that it does the badge.
So why, why oh why would you distort the not-so-bad looking coupe with that disgusting nose, a snout that would look more at home in a trough than in a garage.
I liked maseratis, hell, if I had a bit more money in the bank I would probably have bought one (pretty obvious statement there) but now I ponder the wisdom.
So I guess I'll stick with my festiva (although that's perhaps fairly inevidable, given my financial situation as such) which doesn't cost more than 50000 pounds to look like a piece of shit.
Relevant or not, I'd like to hear some other opinions about this new 'nose'.
Cheerio.

Maserati, I have a few things to say.

No no no no..
Get some glasses or a taste implant pal !
The new Quattroporte is gorgeous. One of the most distinctive cars on the road with a lot of character and presence.
Makes an equivalent Merc/ BMW look ugly and dull.

I'm really starting to fall for Maseratis. I love the boomerang lights on the 3200GT/A and was sorry to see them go. But as a (currently) TVR Tuscan owning individual who cannot comment too much on Maser's styling nuances, I have to say overall that the cars look stunning. They are graceful but muscular looking and sort of say, "I'm really quick, but I don't feel the need to prove it!".

Me too. I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of changing the Tuscan (although have been saying that for a while). Trouble is, I just didn't know what to replace it with. I want something around the same price with a bit of grunt that not everyone in London has (eg. a 911). Also would like a change from a TVR. Seems that a 2nd hand 4200 may well do it.
Anyone know where the nearest dealership to London docklands is?
Boomerang lights - Yes
Bonnet vents - No (get a bloody Scooby if you want all that rubbish)
Quatropporte is fantastic, strikin,g has great road presence - not beautiful but elegant - and the interior if specced by someone with a bit of taste is out of this world.

Nope I cant afford it, but just because something is expensive, it does not make it beautiful.
As an admirier of the original 3200Gt, each 'modifictaion' does nothing to enhance what was a beautiful shape.
As regards the quattroporte the jury is still out, I caught a fleeting glance of one few weeks ago, definately a bold and brave effort.... which will need to be bought by bold and brave people.
Will certainly stand out from the 7's, S Classes, LS430's And Jags

My 3200 is just about to go over 9000 miles so it has a few left to play with before the 56,000 £25k issue. When i change it will be at a main dealer and a part-ex. I would be quite happy with the new Coupe. I would just miss the back lights
Totally under rated car.

Couldnt agree more.
I saw my first one 'in the metal' last week and it was absolutely stunning. To make things even better it was parked next to a Merc AMG CL500 which just looked unbelievably bland and dull in comparison.

BTW, what's that got to do with it?
Companies are foolish if they only try to appeal to those who have the wedge now...you need to breed desire in those that will be able to afford one not so far from now.
And without wishing it to come across as a personal affront, I don't rate the styling of the T350ski either
Beauty and function. That's what's needed!

Kevin
It's on the 3200 buyers guide. Has had loads of issues and it's not been through a main dealer. Imagine How much a TVR's worth after that milage and a missing code key.
