About three months ago I booked a self catering holiday in Spain for my family. We're due to go this month, however I have just received an email from the travel company saying the oven has been removed for 'security' reasons. Given that we are self catering we were relying on being able to cook our own food, especially for my youngest who is just under two. Having no oven is really going to limit our ability to cook. As far as I can workout we now just have a hob in the room.

I was wondering what's my rights regarding this. Can I ask for some money back to cover having to eat out more? Could I even cancel the holiday as it's not as described? Also how the 'ell can an oven pose a security risk???

It's not self-catering if you can't cook. Is there still a hob, microwave etc? If so, maybe ask for a discount. If you're not happy with it, ask for a refund. Did you pay by credit card, they'll usually help you out if you feel you've been cheated.

I think its just the hob that's there. Yes I did pay by credit card just in case something like this happened

"La seguridad" can translate both to "security" and "safety". And it might be a gas boiler or fire that has been removed. Best to confirm.

Indeed... how much of a security risk can an oven pose?

(Braces for puns: terrorism can be a bit of a hot potato subject)

If you want to cancel, cancel. If they get arsey do a chargeback on your credit card and book somewhere else.

Been on these 'self catering' holidays with youngsters in tow and never ever have we once used an oven...Hob yes...oven no.
You are going on holiday to somewhere where 'Summer' means good (often very hot) weather..You won't be cooking roast beef two veg and Yorkshire puddings that often...believe me.
Bacon butties for breakfast and a few boiled eggs for your salads and that will probably be your culinary limit, no oven needed.

Are they supplying a combination microwave? If so don't worry about it.

I agree. Only ever used the oven for a pizza. Other than that, it's pasta and eggs and bacon and largely salads.
