idle when coasting - higher than at rest

Guys,

2.9v6 - I have an odd symptom that I am sure there must be a reason for. Its not really a problem, but odd.

When coasting out of gear (clutch up or down) the engine idles at approx 1150 rpm, yet when i am at rest the engine idles at about 950rpm (again clutch up or own)

Is there a reason for this? does yours? should it? how do i stop it?

its a deliberate feature of the FI as I understand it, don't worry about it

Yep meant to work that way. Can't quite recall why, I think it is something to do with emissions or some such stuff, but don't worry all is well.

OK - Its not worrying me, but seems a bit daft. The things people develop in engine management that seem to have no worthwhile purpose always puzzles me.

I understand the idea is that by opening the throttle slightly it reduces manifold depression which improves the emissions.

Always wondered why it did that - good to know it's normal!
