And no this has nothing to do with star trek ....
Out with the other half round bournemouth today and a group of 3-4 bikers come past in shorts and wifebeater tops (so they could show off the well ard tribal twatoo on their arms) ,and some had a skinny little bint with hardly sod all on riding pillion ,
So much for leathers and protective armour , cant wait to see one skid down the road
Anyway got home tonight flicking through MTV and see a music vid where ard nut gangster morons have swapped bling cars for bikes , so after seeing what i did today are the kev boieees swapping 4 wheels for 2 and going to help give bikers an even worse image ??

We all do daft things when we're kids - I assume these numpties were 16yo's on Gilera 50's and the like? To add to this list- i was at the london triathalon yesterday, on my way too and from i was overtaken (in my pick up i have to add!) by two seperate bikers each with a kid as pillion say no more than 10 yrs old. I was doing 90mph. Am i getting too old or is than 
ing stupid? Dont get me wrong if i was on my bike they proberly wouldn't of overtaken me, but with a kid on the back......

Its not just the kids that are at it. A few months back down at Ayr I seen a quite a few numpties shooting about on cbrs and gxsrs with shorts and t shirts on. I mentioned the lack of leathers to one of these guys and he said. "Its too hot for leathers and anyways I wont fall off" bloody fools.
I really wouldnt want to fall off my bike with shorts and tshirts on near the coast. imaging all that sand getting ground into your freshly bared flesh. Ouch!!!

You make your bed you lie in it.
If they come off they know the score, I do it myself, I know its dangerous, but I when I ride in shorts and vest I ride SLOW....I take my time, no risks, no overtaking no nothing, I just like the sun on me when I ride......feels GOOOOOOOOOD!!
I only ride like that it I only have a few miles, I'd never go on the motorway like that for example, just round town and local roads.

Hi - As you say, each to his own (and I don't mean to sound sanctimonious) but a friend of mine used to do just that. Going down the road to meet some friends in the pub about 3 years ago he had a low speed 'off' after being hit by a bus.
He is really getting on well with the the artificial leg now.
I think the worrying thing about motorbikes, is that the amount of risk that you deem acceptable, just goes up and up, until something happens I imagine. When I passed my test I wouldnt even have entertained the idea of riding in jeans rather than leathers, but now it doesnt seem so dangerous.

Did this chap lose his leg due to grazing off all his skin, or was it crushed by the bus?!
Losing the skin/muscle sliding down the road at 20 mph.
Also nearly died of kidney failure as his body tried to generate enough plasma to heal the wound. He's just about beginning to realise that he was a very lucky boy....

you see the friction burns from the jeans sliding up me leg just took the skin with it.

This reminds me of a story my dad told me about when he was younger he came off of his bike backwards and landed on his butt. He was in hospital for days later with a doctor picking stone chips out his arse.
He said that from that day on he wore leathers. He had been wearing re-inforced jeans but these just disintagrated on impact with the tarmac and he skited along the road on his buttocks.
I always wear my leathers, no matter what the weather is like. I wouldnt risk my life just because I was too lazy to put on my leathers, how long does it really take, two mins?

I came off a pushbike, going down a gravel/flint farm track - front wheel locked up at about 40mph - I spent a week in hospital as my elbows were ground down to the bone and I have scars on my chest and elbows. I also have a dent in my chest where I shattered a rib. I was wearing jeans, t shirt and a bike lid.
I 99% of the time wear full leathers - but last night I was going to the pub with a mate who lives a mile out of town - so I took a pair of jeans with me, changed into them at his house and rode into town with my jeans and jacket on. Its a risk, but so's biking. I didn't ride any differently actually either - I don't feel I do anything stupid in leathers, so there was no need to adjust my riding style when in jeans.
