how to remove the rubber cover on slave cylinder
Discussion
Been reading all the threads on fitting a new slave, I can't see a post that says how the rubber cover is removed. Its the one that protects the slave from muck being licked up.
Looks like most owners have it missing as its never mentioned? Had a very quick look at it, but would like someone to confirm before I get stuck in. I don't want to have trouble
like I did with the clevis pin on the master cylinder! Easy when you know how. Also. see a post that says to leave the slave holder in place, as the nut is a bugger to refit afterwards as it turns
and you can't get a spanner on the back to stop it turning. Can I leave the holder in place and get the cylinder out ok? Part ordered from Paul at power track, top bloke and very helpful.

Rubber cover should just flip off with a bit of help from a flat screwdriver.
Getting at the two bolts holding the slave to the bracket can be a little aukward, depending which way round they've been fitted it can be difficult getting a spanner or socket on the nut if same as photo because it's kinda recessed into the bracket.
Quite possibly easier to remove complete with bracket, only one nut/bolt to remove and don't recall that being inaccessible?
I replaced my clutch slave cylinder last year and found it to be a fairly simple task with the main difficulty being access in what is a tight space. I did take the slave holder off which made removal nice and easy - I did later regret it however as it was a real pain to manipulate the bolt into position through the small access hole and hold it there while trying to thread the nut onto the other side.
My advice would be to loosen the slave holder off if required to improve your access to the two bolts phillpot mentioned but leave it in place; it will save you pain and grief when reassembling later. As already said, the rubber collar should prise easily from the lip of the slave cylinder. Below is a photo of my broken unit where you can see the rubber collar has been pulled off my the pushrod over-extending.

Hope this helps,
David

Thanks guys. I'm not refering to the rubber cover on the cylinder, but a rubber cover that goes over the half the cylinder, its a cover to protect from road muck. Been out there tonight. Oh the fun..... after 2 hours, I didn't even get a bolt off! like you guys have pointed out, you can't get a socket on the back to stop the bolts spining. Why the heck would you design a holder like that! I'm going to buy a 13mm stubby, see if I can get it on the back, socket on the front. Also the nut on the hydraulic pipe won't budge and I don't want to round it off, so going to get a flared nut spanner while i'm at it. Do I get a 13mm or is it imperial? 7/16 rings a bell, but thats 11mm approx and thats too small? If an metric spanner will work I can one from Halfords ... and I was feeling quite confident after the master went on easy! David, your bolt for the bracket is different to mine, mine bolts to the front, not to the top as in your photo, mines the same as phillpots, I think I must have read a previous thread of yours that describes that you had a problem getting the bracket back on, now I can see why. When I was looking at mine tonight, I was wondering what problem you have had, as it looks easy to undo and tighten up on mine, but I didn't touch it, just in case!!
