if you had 18k to spend...

would you make an offer for this...

or maybe wait till 997's come down a little.
I'll be using the car everyday and ferrying 1 child to school as well as the odd infant trip.
What will the 996tt prices hold like over the next year? the car above has done high miles but its been serviced by a main dealer on the button.

You won't see a (good) 997 down at 18k for a while I think.
The 996tt looks good value but I would be wary of any impending big bills and also what you would have to spend on it straight away.
If I was you I would be looking at Caymans like this ... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3690614.htm

I'd back up this recommendation if the car had PASM. Caymans on 19"s need it. Or try to do a wheel swap for the standard 18"sThe 996tt looks good value but I would be wary of any impending big bills and also what you would have to spend on it straight away.

It's cheap but I am personally not keen on the bodykit. a standard Turbo would be my pick, if I were into forced induction. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

'GT3 body kit' eh? I am going to start sounding like a broken record but no, I wouldnt make an offer for it, from just looking at an add, anyway.
These are expensive cars and there is much to be careful of. At 18k it may well be a 'cheap car', but it could also be a shed that needs an 18k spend.

Guys, if I had 18K I'd buy something else. My Cayman broke down for the second time in 13 months. First time it was a set of ignition coils (£500) this time it's more serious .... Can I have that £18K 'cos that's how much I need to replace the engine!
... And my Porsche has only done 10,300 miles.

Of couse but I would assume that's it's not a complete shed by it's full Porsche service records, I know everything has to be followed and checked with whom it was looked after. My general query was if the car checked out ok is it worth 18k.
I'm not sure you can draw a correlation between the fact it has OPC history and that it has been well maintained per se?I know plenty of people who get their car serviced by a dealer but a lot of the time don't get recommended work carried out.
Still if I had £18k sitting here I'd get the car inspected by Peter Morgan and purchased if it checked out !!!

That sounds horrific. It's also the biggest estimate I've ever seen for a standard water-cooled engine replacment, by a long way. You should be able to get a goodwill contribution from Porsche but either way I'd get talking to Hartech - they re-engineer the engines whilst rebuilding them so you end up with something much better and the cost is rarely much more than a third of what you've been quoted, and often less, depends what's wrong with it.... And my Porsche has only done 10,300 miles.
It's worth pointing out that the woes of standard water cooled engines do not apply to Turbo or GT2/GT3 cars, thus making a good one a sensible proposition.

Based on the pics I think it could be a dealer posing as a private seller - ...

The key tag certainly doesn't look like a private owner's type
Indeed. Are what are the two main reasons for a dealer doing this?:
1) To make more money/Tax avoidance
2) To release them from their statutory responsibilites in repairing/remedying a dog of a car.....
That said, if it checks out, it could be an absolute bargain (but don't be lulled into a false sense of security just because it has all OPC stamps, as someone else has already said)
