GT3 PDK. Probably.
Discussion
A few stronger hints that the 991 GT3 will be PDK...

Electrical steering also seems to be the preference...
"Regardless of which transmission is offered, Achleitner confirmed the next-generation GT2 and GT3 will have an electromechanical steering system. It has received some flack for not offering a lot of feedback, but Achleitner said "All our race drivers prefer it."
If true that power - very likely to be 450hp, coupled with a few weight-saving mods (1350-1370kg my guess?), that should give a power-to-weight ratio of at least 330+bhp per/tonne for the standard GT3. With PDK that should be quick enough!

If you were developing the new GT3 no doubt you'd be acutely conscious of the fear amongst fans that the manual transmission might have breathed its last. Would you be able to resist sending a manual car out into testing fitted with a PDK steering wheel? The temptation must be great...
A GT3 is a modern take on a 'race car' for the road, it should be able to drive to a track (get a beating) then drive home...
What modern race cars have a manual gearbox?
I love a manual but these modern day twin clutch transmissions are superb.
I for one would now consider a GT3 PDK, completing a track day with both hands on the wheel is the way to go IMO!
All the 'purists' seem to say the same old crap; 'old' tech/no abs/no traction control is for a 'proper' driver... Thats just bo11ox IMO!

I think everyone's entitled to their opinion and I do understand where people are coming from when they lament the passing of the gear stick. I've always opted for manual and now have PDK, it's superb to use but I'm sure that I will miss the manual box in time, however, it's progress. I remember thinking that Formula 1 was dumbing down years ago when they all went to paddleshift, but I guess you can extend that argument to many technical developments. What modern race cars have a manual gearbox?

OP - Surely that should have been a thumbs DOWN?

I am a self-confessed PDK fanboy. I don't think it'd bother me to never own another manual Porsche, or ANY manual car for that matter. If cars are going to continuously get quicker, man needs assistance, and auto-gear-changing is a major key factor today. I personally like the flexibility of being able to leave it in 1 of numerous 'Auto' modes - depending on mood, and when you want to feel a tad more involved in the action... press a button and activate the paddles. I really believe it's the best of all worlds.

How is the merc auto? Doesn't it come in for a bit of stick?

I think I'm the diametric opposite of you where PDK is concerned. Whilst I fully acknowledge how efficient the PDK is at max attack, I think it removes too much from the driving experience and can be utterly annoying in any of the Auto modes! For me, part of the enjoyment of driving is derived from striving to perfectly time my gear changes and to acurately rev-match on downchanges. There's also a hooligan streak that loves to be able to blip the throttle, just for the hell of it! I'm also a believer in the old school principle of adding lightness to go faster. PDK goes against this by being heavier than a 'proper' manual.
Nontheless, I completely respect your opinion - there is no wrong or right here, just preference.
the thing with all these duel cluch systems is,
A: no one uses manual in the end, even though they say they will
b: in audo mode you get either 7th gear by 3omph or red line in every gear.
So in Auto they are very anoying
I would like a dial to turn which sets the gear change point to the revs I have set.
Most of the time It would be set 4 to 5k revs, so not nanny slow and not balls out stupid making you look like a t

t.I summarise it like this;
Daily diesel s
tter = DSG Auto or similar.
Weekend fun car = manual gearbox with all of the fun and challenges that brings to the driver.
PDK has its place, but for me thats not in a 911. I understand why others like it, but they are looking for a different experience to me.
Its each to their own really.

It's not as quick or responsive as a double-clutch type. Overall though i don't think it's as bad what some make out. Upshifts are definitely quick enough when pressing on, and downshifts are normally pretty responsive, with the added bonus of a nice 'blip' from the V8. My only criticism really is changing down 2+ gears, quickly. I think that's where the DCT type boxes excel ?I wouldn't swap it for a manual though

Each to their own mate.
Dont get me wrong, I went Manual in my R8V10 as I found the r-tronic crap...
However in the 2nd Gen 997 Turbo's the PDK is excellent in manual (paddle shift) mode...
Try one, you may just be turned!

Before owning an auto (with paddles) i would of agreed with you on this, and when i had the PDK 997 for a week, i never used the paddles either. But, i have started to use the paddles on the C63 (on any road other than dual-carriageway etc), and have really found them to be very useful and interactive with the journey. I also find it keeps both hands on the steering wheel, and in the *correct* holding positionA: no one uses manual in the end, even though they say they will
