Evening all,

In my haste to take pictures of my daughters kayaking this afternoon, I manged to insert a CF card 90 degrees out of orientation.

I didn't think I'd pushed too hard but obviously hard enough and I've managed to bend a pin in the CF slot of my 7D.

Any recommendations for a repair / replacement of the pin unit ?

It's a 7D, out of warranty and I'm West Midlands based if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Simon

90 Degrees? 180 shirley?

There's a Canon repair place in Stoke, I can't remember the name off the top of my head tho... Ah! H Lehmann I believe.

Unless the pin is really bent (and I can't think how one might really bend just one pin) it may well be possible to straighten itsufficuently to use. So long as it is straight enough when fitting the card correctly it does not have a lot of stress placed upon it.

I've always had good results with Canon at Elstree.

Do you have CPS membership? If so they'll turn it around really quick.

Well that's it - handed over in Stoke this morning.

£220.00 for replacement pin unit, full service inc sensor clean etc.

Three other places quoted similar figures but I'd then be posting body off so I took the easy option and had a drive up the M6.

The guy in Lehmanns reckons they get about one body a week with bent CF pins, usually 300 / 350 / 400 / 450.

I don't have CPS membership but will have a look into it if it could save in future.

Fingers crossed and I'll report back when it's back in my sticky paws.

Thanks for all the advice !
