Evening all, just a quick one from me.
I have purchased the above for my Mx5, routed it through the car to the front etc, but i have what may be quite a stupid question.
The small black box, that 'cuts' the timing beam so to speak, which way does it face? I cant work out whether it would be downwards or to the left/right?

Also, whilst i am posting, it should pick up the track beam for most circuits surely? (Although i do have the beacon to go with it)

It picks up the beacon fron the side of the track, usually the inside right hand side but not always. Aim it right and slightly front facing.

Point it at the pit wall, I.e. to the right for brands, silverstone etc, to the left for Combe, Rockingham etc.
Set the blanking to a few seconds faster than you expect to lap. Trp 6 and Sens 10 works reliably for me.

Ok Gents,

So for instance, my first round is Brands Hatch, so i can servo tape/cable tie the little transponder to the front bulkhead with the little 'eye' facing to the left, and it will pick the beam up through the wing?

I think it needs a direct line of sight in that it wont go through steel if that's what you mean. You probably wont need your box on the pit wall though as someone normally has one in use.

for brands you want the eye facing to the right ie the pit wall, ive got mine fastned to the roll cage behind seat & faceing out the side of car

Mine sits on the top of my roll cage and as I said in my previous post, RIGHT for brands hatch, pointing at the pit wall.

It'll be fine inside the car near the windscreen, we run one on an Escort and Fiesta taped to the roll bar near the top of the screen, make sure it's pointing toward the pit wall.

Perhaps I have misread your post, but a T100 is a lap timer that only provides information for you.
It sounds like you require an AMB transponder if you are racing.

Yeah I'm aware, what I meant was the small black 'box' that picks up the timing strip/beam from the track itself.

If your beacon is on the pit wall (which would be usual) it needs to point towards the pit wall.

It works using infra-red (you can test it with a TV remote) so needs clear line of sight.

If you don't have a beacon, simply follow me around the UK as I seem to forget to retrieve mine every time (and in spite of it having my contact details on it, it never gets returned). smile

I race a Fiesta and I have mine velcro'd to the main roll hoop pointing out through the glass. It's a bit hit or miss sometimes i dont get a lap or it registers two laps as one. I dont use the separate beacon either - i guess it picks up the master timing beacon or someone elses kit. As its infrared based the sensor needs to have a clear line of sight to the pit wall.

As Count Johnny said - it's Infra-Red triggered. There is a beacon on the pitwall of most circuits - plus ones that people take themselves!! Hence the comment about setting the blanking time.

I have mine held to the main roll hoop with a diamond jubilee clip!!

It's long enough to reach to either side of the car.
