Sheared pedal thread

Hi,

Recently purchased a cheapish road bike to get me started and when changing the pedals one of the threads on the crank arm sheared off.

Is it possible to re-thread it? approximate cost? If not what are my options for replacement?

Can't see the pictures at work, but would this by any chance be a 'ohh, so thats a left-handed thread' moment?

Once you get your crank arm fixed you wanna change those tyres, I had them fitted to my road bike and they puncture if you so much as mention glass!!!

Do you have a decent LBS? I am sure for a costa coffee they will sort it out for you....

Do you mean you stripped the thread? The pics don't show anything sheared off

If so, yes, you can get it drilled out and a helicoil fitted

Might be cheaper to buy a new crank though

You'll probably be able to re-tap the thread if you've stripped rather than sheared the crank arm. You can recover even a badly mangled thread. I've just re-tapped the BB shell on my MTB frame and that was buggered after the BB seized in place.

Stripped is the correct word, without the correct tools, re-tapping is not something I'm looking to do my self. Just wanted to weigh up my options either get someone to do it or by new / used crank.

A set of pedal taps is circa 20 quid so your local bike shop should do it for you for a lot less than that.
