London Cycle Routes?

Hi Folkks,

I've just moved into the Earls Court area and would like to hear suggestions about where I could take my road bike - purely for exercise, rather than commuting.

I'd rather avoid roads where possible, so parks/cycleways etc would be preferable.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

How far do you want to go? The nearest option is to head down to Richmond Park which is good but gets a little boring after a while. Then you can head south (hillier) or west (flatter), and there are some decent rides of any length in those directions.

Can do a few miles, but would rather cycle from my front door than drive somewhere and then cycle.

No, it's just a gentle 4-5 mile ride away. There's certainly nowhere closer to you worth riding in. (I'm just down the road, between west kensington and barons court.)

its really not - go out to Hammersmith using Lilley road - over the river on Hammersmith bridge and then down to Sheen Lane or Priory Lane to get into the park - one lap and home would probably be 60-70 minutes. Its a lovely ride.

The park is probably the best option tbh. Its nice on the outer track (if on MTB) or the inner track on road bike, not many cars, plenty of deer, not going to do much better without going outside the m25.
