Am I the only one who thinks that the latest road safety advert with the motorbike is a bit much? Not meaning to cause offence to any of the bikers but what was the motorcyclist doing overtaking when the bloke was indicating in any case? I used to cycle to work and I know a lot of car users don't look around them and after several close calls decided to be a bit flabbier and drive each day.
But in this case at least the bloke in the ad was indicating first and then made his manoeuvre. If they'd shown the chap just chopping across then yes, justifed, however as it is, it looks like the motorcyclist should have been paying a bit more attention.

Ehh Matt thats the point the advert says look out for each other. The fact the driver didn't look to his right just to check (blind spot check) and the motorbike didn't look at the car position and indicators. Of all the "think" adverts they've done I feel this is one of the best. Makes both car and bike riders think.

Being a car driver and bike pillion a lot, I feel this advert was certainly good. A lot better than the cr@p kid killing one with the doctored car.

I can see the point of the advert but to me it seems to make the car the culprit not both. Or is that the case?

just seen the horsey one just as bad all the blame seems to be on the motorist . and the horses are riding along perfectly with high vis jackets etc

To be honest I think its for both with more blame for the car driver. Which IMHO is correct. The driver was making the move and knew there was a bike around. Observation skills are important and he/she should have been looking for the bike before the manouver. A quick look over the shoulder would have prevented this accident. That is the impression I got from the advert ie there's a bike around - look for it.

For the biker viewers its saying watch for people in cars they may not be able to see you and may manouver without looking. Which is no bad thing for all.

I've not seen the horsey one, so can't comment. I have no probelms though with this advert as its saying observe and think rather than the "speed kills" mantra.

The car was indicating and the bike should never have been where it was!

However, knowing what some bikers can be like in traffic I would have done a last paranoid check if the bike wasn't in any mirror at point of turn.

I still push the majority of blame towards the biker in that example.

Actually we saw it for the first time, and BOTH of us thought it was superb.

Just my thoughts, but well done for a brilliant advert that DID NOT MENTION SPEED.

rgds, Carl.

PS, I know that if I had to overtake a PH reader, I'd be a lot safer. Cheers guys.

Good advert for defensive driving. Let's say that legally the biker was at fault. However, an extra check by the car driver could have avoided the accident.

Who is legally to blame is a lot less important than the fact that a potentially serious or even fatal accident was avoided. That's the message and it's a good one.

Speed kills, when it's too slow!
