Simple 100 % improvement on airflow

I know Adrian and Phil have been telling me this for a long time with regards to mesh..but i never really understood just how much of an effect it had until i realised my tunnel cooling was nt working due to mesh blocking airflow.
So i changed the mesh on the front and rear, and no mesh at all behind the IC..the thing is finding just the right mesh so that it does not block too much airflwo but also is not too see through which can spoil the look.

I'm looking at doing this job as the mesh on mine is all looking a bit tatty, which gauge/size of mesh is seen as the best?
Also do the side pods (M400 style) put a lot more cooling air into the engine bay and if so where can I source some?
And finally I've seen some people with fans attached to the inside of the rear clam(I assume to remove hot air from the engine bay) again is this a worthwhile mod and what type of fan and where can I source?

Are you sure you're not talking about intercooler fans (waste of time IMO as they restrict what little "free" air that is available when you're moving).I'm looking at doing this job as the mesh on mine is all looking a bit tatty, which gauge/size of mesh is seen as the best?

Mesh is graded by percentage of free area a 75% free area mesh will be less restrictive than say 50%.
50% is more like the standard look 75% would be the larger mesh in Chris' picture and 75% is approaching chicken wire.
You have to find the balance between function and aesthetics, best flow would be to junk the mesh altogether and extend the rear of the intercooler box into the low pressure area behind the car, fine for a race car but FUGLY on a road car.
Fans in the engine bay help remove heat faster when stationary,i also rrun them for a couple of minutes after stopping to help avoid fuel evaporation, i fitted some 5" tripac fans to the underside of clam, they are powerful and remove alot of hot air, but again the mesh could do with being swapped out for better airflow.
Not sure what gauge the mesh is but i would use that pic above as a guide against the stock mesh, if you go any bigger then the mesh is too see through, the only place is used slightly bigger is on the front rad.
Apparantly due to pressure build up in front wheel arches the airflow down the side of the car is disrupted which affects airflow to the side pods, so you need to vent the front wheel arches, also putting front quarter infil plates pushes more air under the car instead of into the wheel arch. My wheel arches are vented in 3 places, louvre on top, bracket removed where clam meets windscreen and behind wheel to direct air to side pod.

Here is a pic of the fans but these are now going to be removed and replaced with larger mesh and additinal vents which will naturally let me heat out when stationary

Here is a pic of the heat insulated fuel lines to avid fuel evaporation and power loss..

Its looking extremely dirty, the car needs a good clean next..

Surely the fastback mod is the best balance between function and aesthetics..Paul Cundy still has them available so this is top of my most wanted list..Thanks for the advice, I'm good with mechanicals not so good with bodywork so not too keen on chopping the clam up, I'll change my mesh and maybe make the piece behind the intercooler removable for track days. I like the idea of the larger carbon scoops in the other thread on here so may get a pair of those and see if it helps.
