Afan Forest

Four of us are heading up to Afan Forest next weekend and will be there Friday and Saturday night. Can anyone surgest where to go for a few beers at night? Is Port Talbot worth a taxi ride??

We stay in a boutique hotel called the Bluebell in Neath. Great rooms, great food and great bar. We typically go out to a few bars the come back when we get scared of the freaky locals and drink in the hotel bar.

We sat in the hotel bar and watched the half ton bhes slug it out over some bloke. One KOd the other then passed out. It took one police meat wagon for each of them and 8 coppers to haul them into the back. We laughed so much we cried but there was no way we were going outside!

Is there any local pubs to Afan we should try? Gone off Port Talbot for some reason.

WE always went to the one next to the center in Afan - was ok..
Failing that - the drop-off not open till late?

The Railway is fine. To be honest, the publife in and around the centres of Port Talbot/Neath/Cymmer/Maesteg isn't the salubrious - much the same as most former industrial areas in the UK.

Busy

Wind Street in Swansea is a good night out.

Mumbles Mile too.

Quiet

Country pubs in Llangynwydd are good - Corner House and Old House.

The Prince in Cynfig serves a fabulous pint, and is a little east of Port Talbot.

The Bar at the Afan Lodge is pretty good, it's not exactly a rave, but it's a great place for a beer.

Off to Afan myself on Saturday with some mates so interesting reading. Never been before so going to try and do W2 to see a bit of everything.

How's it compare to Coed-y-Brenin and Llandegla, 2 places I have visited previously.

What worries me, the biggest hills we have in Suffolk are going up and down curbs!!!

Sadly not, but on the plus aside, (option black loop aside) once you've done the tough initial climb it's pretty much only a few short 'top up' climbs away from being downhill all the way back down.
