Saw this graph the other day how the spread of countries in the euro zone are so diverse compared to a number of hypothetical monetary unions (including countries of the world beginning with M). Can the Euros really continue to exist against the laws of macro economics?

I'd like to see the same graph for US States. Somehow they manage monetary union without all the bullst of the Eurozone.

The difference is that they've had 150 years to get it right and the formation of the US and the introduction of the dollar was almost a year zero moment. The countries of Europe have enjoyed hundreds of years of political, fiscal and monetary independence...the Eurozone was an attempt to forget all that and start anew.
