RNLI St Abbs rescue..
Discussion
A superb record of some amazing men and a stark reminder how easily things can go wrong when "on" the water.

There is only much I can say but IME the operation and management of the organisation is a long way behind the courage of the front line staff. I have a lot of respect for the institution and they have the best intentions but the governance, decision and making behind the scenes is typical of charities and public sector organisations. I donate and will continue to but with eyes wide open.
But thankfully as a charity run outfit, it's not subject to some of the government crazy rules and the RNLI guys can stick tw fingers at Health & Safety and actually rescue people - unlike police and fire service who, for example, simply stood around and watched a woman die who had fallen down a hole blaming Health & Safety for their lack of action.
You wouldn't get the RNLI guys (and gals) doing that.
Having had two of my family involved in RNLI crew, I've seen some of the condition these unpaid volunteers go out in - and know of families whose sons / fathers / grandfathers didn't return. To me, these people are the real heroes.

Well said BGA. The two stations I am close to, the crews are becoming quite vocal about their disdain of the management. It would be a shame for the paid staff to lose the ability to choose from the best of voluntary staff from over subscription to a situation of having to take whoever comes along.
Luckily at the moment the boys at the nasty end ignore it to their best abilities and just get on with what they see the job as.
With that in mind I tend to make sure that the lads are sorted with appreciative beer when we meet rather than filling a box up with loose coppers.
