Recommend an XBOX 360 Flight Sim?
Discussion
Hello all,
looking for a good dogfighting game for the 360, if such a thing exists?
Ideally something WW2 based, as the less I have to contend with, controls-wose, the better, but happy to go modern if it's a much better game. I guess I'd probably err more towards game than sim but interested in what's out there really...
What do we think?

IL-2 Sturmovik or Birds of Steel are both WW2. Birds of Steel is much newer, but they have similar flight mechanics; and a wide range of simulation difficulty, from arcade up to virtually impossible to even take off using the standard controller.
-edit-
Both have demos, worth giving them a try.

Birds of Steel.
I have been playing it for a while now, and if you like WW2 flight sims, you'll love it. On Simulator difficulty it is fiendishly hard and you will need to map additional controls to your Xbox pad to manage all of the controls, but on Sim difficulty be aware this is very much a flight simulator and every bit as challenging and hard as the PC version.
You have a hangar full of planes just like in Forza - the more Warpoints you unlock via multiplayer or dynamic campaign, the more you can spend on better planes. The AI is pretty rubbish so offline it isn't much cop, online dogfighting is good fun and upcoming patches and fixes set to improve it even more.
check out the screenies taken from the PS3 version (due to the PS3 having a screenshot feature)

Best flight sim for consoles by a country mile.

For modern stuff Over G fighters is amazing. Miles behind things like Ace Combat and HAWX graphics wise but for features it is brilliant. Limited missiles, limited fuel, flame outs, brilliant game. And cheap too.

That Tom Clancy's Hawx thing is alright. It's not really a "Sim" but it's enjoyable and involves flying jets.
I played that myself a while back.. it's okay and is something different to the WW2 genre of games out there.focused for the arcade type players... but good fun.
It was £5 when i bought it last year.
Birds of Steel is awesome.. and can be bloody hard (yet rewarding)
Well, I downloaded the demo of BoS and liked it a lot (although it's rock hard!) so have ordered it up. Will have a look at HAWX as well as a lighter blast.
What are you guys thoughts on using a stick Vs the control pad? Is it a pretty essential purchase or can you get buy with the pad ok?

If you drop the difficulty down to "arcade" on BoS it's a lot easier to control on the control pad. What are you guys thoughts on using a stick Vs the control pad? Is it a pretty essential purchase or can you get buy with the pad ok?

Also, is HAWX much better than the sequel?? The newer one seems to get a bit of a pasting...

I fly BoS on simulator difficulty with the Xbox game pad. With a little practice I get by and have a good few kills under my belt - the advantage of sim level is that there are no labels or indicators so a good few kills are the result of sneaking up and bouncing an opponent. What are you guys thoughts on using a stick Vs the control pad? The universal opinion is that it is perfectly flyable with a game pad, however a compatible flight stick does improve it further.
I unlocked the Fw-190D yesterday, what a beast that plane is !
