Grooved disk skimming - how often?

I'm being told my front discs need skimming again. I think I've only done 2000 miles since I had them done.

All hubs and bearings were done at the same time.

Your being sold a lie. Pad deposits need burned off, that's it.

I have no reason to doubt these guys but whilst fitting the new suspension they commented on a lot vibration from the front. I've asked them to skim them to see if that cures the problem but I thought having had it done not too many miles ago it would be ok.

For the sake of £120 it's not worth arguing over if it cures the problem.

Vibration normaly caused by disc runout or pad buildup on the disc face , a skim should sort it but get them to check play on the front wheels just to make sure the bearings are ok .

I would hope the bearings would be fine since I got the hubs and bearings changed at the same time as skim last time at Jetstream.

I played this game for years until I got them skimmed by one of the "on the car" lathes. Fixed it once and for all for me.

I had new hubs and bearings done in January and having one of the bearings replaced already, it had enough play that the car pulled to the right noticeably under acceleration and could have been what made the steering feel crap at the ring.

I'll have to ask Jetstream how they did it last time but the new guys are doing it "on the car" with some wizzy machine they have.

Indeed. The machine is around £7k new it seems (they occasionally pop up second hand on ebay) and it's quite clever in that it clamps to the hub, then works out the correction to compensate for any wobble due to the hub itself, and then does the skim. £80 a corner from memory I paid and it's never wobbled since.

Collected the car on Saturday complete with new Protech suspension.

The brakes definately feel a lot better since the "on car" skim was done.

£60 a corner I paid.
