always snooping around the site, but missed this one as it seemed to go very quick.

http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/497/997C2C...

Looks like a good/cheap entry point into 997, can anyone remember the bug price it was at?

I dont think it even showed the price. I go on 991V site every day nearly and i think it was Due In then went straight to Deposit Taken.
Does look nice ill take a guess at £26500!

Can't imagine why it would be snapped up to be honest.
Hardly a bargain or an amazing car.
Small wheels.
Small engine 3.6.
High mileage.
No warranty.
Pay another £2000 if u want stuff fixed.
For about £28000 onwards you can buy proper3.8 S's with lower miles better spec and some warranty

I don't get your comments...

high miles? but it has under 15k miles on new engine
A Full Porsche Warranty
What £2000 payout?

Surely £23k is not a rip off?

No it's not a rip off but hardly anything to excited about.
A 3.6 with high miles and small wheels and no PASM.
warranty has a couple of months to run if you read closely.
then the £2000 extra this lot charge if you want everything fixed and a 3 month warranty.

Seems like a fair price to me. Lot of car for the outlay. To say it has small wheels is amusing and a small engine at 3.6 even more so.

Fact is if you think it's fair and you want one then buy it, otherwise don't. It sold at the end of the day without hanging around so I'm guessing someone was willing to pay that price.

Sparkplug, i agree.
I would loose sleep at night knowing that everytime i wake up i would have to drive that terrible car to work or dare i say it....to the shops!!
Id know that everyone would be saying "there's Pet Op with that dog of a car...only does 0-60 in 5secs and that new engine from OPC, it will only go bang down the road, and the price he paid for it....pah!!!".

Or would you look out of the window and think "fk me, i have a 911"!!!

I prefer the 18" wheels. The new engine is a plus and makes it equivalent in my book to a car with about half the miles - roughly. It's not an '06 model year car - but it will have the final iteration of IMS and RMS as it's a new engine so same difference. I'd have it fully inspected and bid the price minus the repairs - or price minus the cost of putting it on the Hartech scheme. It would sell privately for possibly less than £20K so I bid £22K if it's perfect. People like Henry, though, and so do I. He made a profit on the sale.

Hardly a "small" engine a 3.6 is it. Granted not the 3.8 in the S model but plenty of power there.
Not exactly "small" wheels either. 18's were standard fit on basic 997 C2.

Hi there Plug

From your posts I gather you are contemplating 997 ownership. Don't dismis the 3.6 engine 997. It isn't necessarily a lesser car when compared to its 3.8 engine sibling.

Monkey boy Harris was one of the first to spot this whilst scribbling for one of his paymasters of the time. Quite rightly he commented on how the smaller engine 997 feels a little more nibble than the 3.8. Being a little lighter any power differences are possibly less noticeable than you might imagine. His finely tuned buttocks are well adept at transferring feeling to his knowledgable noggin and there are fewer hands a car would want to be hustled along by. So a chap worth listening to.

Larger wheels undoubtedly look better in that they fill the void, but from a driving perspective I always prefer the smallest wheel on offer. I was chatting with Richard Atwood, quite a successful works driver in his day, at one of the product demo days and it seems we both shared the same view so I'm not alone.

Ultimately as cars age buying descisions are often led by absolute condition as much as how many bits are bolted on. Keep an open mind on including the 3.6 in your search. Like for like the 3.8 is worth a little more than the 3.6 but you might find that saving a few quid doesn't come at the cost of enjoyment.

Anyway, good luck on your search.

Quite rightly said.

Plus Atwood prefers a Cayman to a modern 911 by all accounts.

Henry, clearly a career in diplomacy awaits. You are too kind.

Hope the new owner enjoys the overpriced car he bought from you without a proper warranty ;-)

Tom gave me some sage advice back when I had to re-engine my 996 and it is nice to see you still putting your money where your mouth is, so to speak.
