My lady would like to go away on a holiday at some point in the not too distant future (3rd week of June) but she is afraid of flying.

We don't have much spare cash, but would like to do something.

I have been offered accommodation in the Alps, but the cost of getting there is inhibiting. I wanted to drive, but its going to cost too much I fear.

We live in Southampton.

Any ideas?

My wife is afraid of flying. She goes to the doctor and gets prescribed valium and she says it really helps. Cuts down nagging too... wink

Channel Islands?

Can be lovely if the weather EVER improves, but you're not going to find much nicer weather anywhere in non-flying/cheap-driving range I suspect!

Scilly Islands always look lovely too, although I've not been there.

There are some islands on the North of Brittany too (Ile de Brehat), which are quiet and fairly unspoilt too and have the added 'bonus' (well some won't see it that way) of being proper foreign smile

The Channel Islands aren't cheap for accomodation and food though.

Where in the Alps have you been offered accomodation? Personally I'd drive (or fly to Geneva with a cheapy airline) and live on bread, wine and cheese for a week while pottering about doing some light walking. But then I like that kind of thing.

Morzine. It's the company I work for. It's just the cost of getting there that is the issue, as she won't fly.

Sorry, missed the no flying bit. You don't have the car for a cheap road trip so how about the train. IIRC Morzine isn't bad to get to.
