Can anyone help?
I am looking for a valid format SUFFIX plate which has not been issued. I got the gist from another thread that you can request it to be issued, how can l do this without involving blaggers and chancers? Oh sorry l meant the registration plate dealers...

The DVLA site itself doesn't seem to acknowledge the existence of the older plate format and it seems the whole issuing process is shrouded in the machinations of private companies looking to insert themselves between you and the DVLA.

If the plate is then issued it also seems to be the case that you've then got to buy it auction even though you originally requested it. Rargh! Is that right?

The DVLA sell plates via 2 main processes, the make your own format is only for the prefix/millenium numbers the DVLA withheld from dealers ( ie 1, 2, 3 10 20 etc.
All other number are sold via the auctions including any that make specific names, words etc including prefix/suffix not previously issued. You don't mention the combintion you're after but if it was withheld before thtere must be a reason. As long as it's not offensive the dvla could sell via auction.

So who do l actually ask to get an un-issued plate? I've searched on a prefix version of the pate (F and no not !). The DVLA sponsored site simply says that if the plate can't be found then its unavailable. I know that F 1-20 have not been released, but what of the others?

And is it the case that if l figure out how to request the F prefix plate l will still need to attend an auction and outbid some cowboy who suddenly thinks "ooh l could sell that one on for a few bob?"

Still unclear on this one!
