My Tuscan started misfiring and hesitating on the run home tonight. I just remembered that my last tank of fuel was ordinary 95 RON. I NEVER use 95 RON normally, I usually use optimax, but was miles from a Shell garage.

Has anyone else had anything similar, or am I in for a big bill?

Although I feel that it runs a little better on 98 (optimax) I haven't had any problems running 95.

I hope it isn't anything expensive.

Should be ok unless it was a bad batch of fuel which is unlikely.

If it was low speed(low rpm) bad running it might just need a new set of HT leads.

If it was higher rpm could be something else.

Best to get it checked anyway as could be loads of things, and if it's done it once it will do it again...

Good luck.

Thanks guys, happens two days after telling Chim_Girl how well my car has been running, typical.

It was hesitating at low to mid revs, then flew off almost like a turbo kicking in, it needs some bits doing at the dealer (air-con, small oil leak) so will ask them to check the leads etc.....

When I got mine, it was running lousy from the previous owner putting nothing but 95 RON in. Change to Optimax was very noticeable (after a fair few tanks full). New throttle bodies made an even bigger difference, and hoping the rebuild cures it completely

I run mine on 95 most of the time as I can't really tell any difference on Optimax.

The engine is mapped for 95 so should be fine. More likely a dodgy batch of fuel or crap in the pipe - did you buy from a reputable forecourt ?

Cheers,

Andy.
