What do I do?

I woke this morning to find a silver maserati parked 3 inches from my black GT3's bumper. I pulled back to inspect and had it clearly hit mine then moved slightly forward. It is parked horrible where it is (have pictures of this (front wheels three feet from the pavement, back wheels half a foot from pavement and bumper on mine)

There are clear paint rinkles caused by bumper warping, licence plate damage and deep scratches on my car and the area on the back of the maserati which came in contact with my from bumper is visable due to it being dirty and the contact removed the dirt and caused light scratching. I took photos of all of this but obviously the maser could be polished and cleaned and these scratches will dissappear into its silver paint.

The Maser has clearly hit everything it has ever parked next to as its bumper is littered with bumps and dents and the alloys are destroyed. Mine however is usually kept in a garage and these scratches are the only marks on it. You could argue that they are small scratches yes and paint rinkles are only noticable upon inspection but a respray would cost £1k and I hope you all feel my pain

What do I do?

I left a note but am I only relying on this person owning up?

If I hear nothing to I call the police or their insurance company?

Similar thing happened to me not long ago. I waited for the (lady) responsible to come back to her car and when she did she steadfastly said that she didn't hit my car, despite the yellow paint she had obviously implanted on my black bumper, and eventually said that if the cars had touched that it was me who did it and I was trying to con her. I was as close to knocking out a woman as I ever have been in my life. But, frankly, there was nothing I could do.
So I expect it will come down to whether the Maser driver is a reasonable person, or not!

Yes, I feel your pain but this is a sad fact of life when parking on street.

The police will simply chuckle while the insurer will do nothing when the cost of a respray is less than the excess. Let's hope that your note was so worded as to elicit the correct response from the culprit and that he or she is decent enough to want to make amends.

You might find T-cut (go carefully) or (perhaps better) a good polish will mask those scratches, and you will be picking up plenty of stone chips on that PU in the near future (or you should be made to hand over that GT3 to a more enthusiastic owner!!).

If you really need to respray that bumper I don't think, even in Central London, you'll be paying £1000. It's £10-20 fopr a licence plate and I've had my PU resprayed expertly twice at £200 a go (up north where life is cheap). Silver metallic paint absolutely invisibly blended in each time.

Here's hoping for a good outcome. And enjoy that car.

the owner lives on my road too. we are neighbours....maybe that will help....I am unsure where he or she lives though.

It is the dirtiest car on the street and as I said covered in battle scars

Knife the tyres - you may as well inconvenience the dick as much as they have now inconvenienced you?

Does this make me sound like Sambakrusty?

Don't want to sound like the voice of doom, but if the Maser driver cares that little about their car, it's a longshot that they will care about yours at all.

Happens every day, sadly some people don't give a st and there's nothing you can do.

My unkind neighbours always responded by saying it's only a car.

I have a Sig pistol next to my computer as i read your post and i looked at it and said "shoot the bh".
Assuming you dont have a pistol to hand, i heard there is a problem with Maserati tyres at the moment with uncontrollable air loss!!!!

Just move your car into the garage first!

I would go to your insurer, who will then chase the maser insurer for the claim...the maser insurer will probably not fight as it will be a small amount I am guessing. Keep all the pics, etc.

(If the driver doesn't own up)

Horrible. To some people, a car is a car and the bumper is exactly that.

OP, do you have any off-street parking ? If I had a GT3 parked in the street I wouldn't sleep, ever.

My wife parked her car once and some old fogey parked next to it. He reversed in and scraped his car all the way down ours. When he got out he flatly denied touching the car - even though there were paint scrapes all the way down!!!

Luckily there were multiple independent witnesses. Cost £2.5k to remedy.

Heard his old dear rolled her car and wrote it off the same week - a bad day in his insurers office that week!

Wait with your car until they return and speak to them very nicely about the unfortunate damage to your car and how they would like to proceed?
If all goes well and they accept responsibility great, if they are in the mood to deny it or mess you about take out a pre-prepared hammer and start by putting a large dent in the back wing and then tell them you will do every panel on the car until they sort yours out, if they don't agree smash their car up lose the hammer and deny all knowledge when plod calls to talk about it.

No witness, no comment.

Might be worth putting your towing eye in and leaving it in, if you are parking on the street, as said previously your PU will need painting eventually anyway if you drive the car often. Hope you have some luck getting some money off the inconsiderate twunt who did this..
