Hi Guys

I'm thinking of selling my beloved 59 reg Clio 200 Cup in order to make my first foray into Porsche ownership. I have the funds to buy an 05/06 987 2.7, and would appreciate any advice from anybody that already has one.

I am a hardcore Porsche fan, and have been since I was a boy. My girlfriend and I want to start a family next year, so I thought this might be my last chance (for a little while at least!) to hear the delicious howl of a flat six behind my ears.

I love all Porsches, from the early Gmund cars right through to the current 981/991 generation. I'm a regular reader of GT Porsche, 911 & Porsche World, Total 911, Autocar, Evo and occasionally buy a classic car mag.

Favorite Porsche? Errrrrrm? Not a huge fan of Panamera/Cayenne, but appreciate that they're still brilliant at what they do, and keep Porsche in the black. Love all the other stuff.

I've encouraged my girlfriend to come with me this summer to the beautiful city of Stuttgart. I've told her that it's a very romantic place, and is regarded among people in the know as the new Paris. Obviously I intend to leave her in the shops while I spend a few hours at THE MUSEUM.

I've really enjoyed reading the posts on this forum for some time, so thought it was time for me to get involved.

Kind regards

Tony

Welcome aboard. Just do it, you'll love it. You have to work the 2.7 a bit harder than the 3.2 to keep it 'on the boil', but not an issue if you are not a torque freak.

Thanks!

Not a torque freak, have Clio 200 (156 lb/ft) nothing until 5000rpm!

Yep the only thing you really lose out on with the 2.7s is 'lazy torque'.

When you are actually driving it for enjoyment it can be nice because you have more scope to explore the rev range without hitting silly speeds constantly.

Likewise when cruising around, it makes very little difference, you just have to drop it a cog when overtaking.

Absolutely love my 2.7 cayman, I find it very well judged for local Welsh B roads.

Off on a 3500 mile roadtrip with the girlfriend around Europe at the end of June in it, one possible Cayman advantage, there is actually quite a lot of room in the thing for roadtrip gear.

I'd love a Cayman, but can't really afford one. Where are you going in Europe?

Thanks for yor reply

That is a shame, I forget they still command a premium over the relative Boxsters. Either way, the engine and chassis are still great, and that is what matters.

Provence, Monaco, Italian lakes, French/Swiss Alps, Germany, 'ring, Belgium! Should be a great time!

Very jealous! My girlfriend lived in Aix en Provence for a year whilst studying for her French degree. I fell in love with southern France when she was there. Nice is very lovely if you get the chance, particularly the old town.

I hope you have a wonderful time.
