Which bycycle me and girlfriend, weekend riding?

Looking for 2 bikes for me and the girlfriend, something to ride for 10-20 mile runs on the weekend - more through parks, on paths next to canals etc than either purely road use or mountainbiking.

Not being into bycycles, I have no idea where to start and am guessing Halfords is overpriced and/or doesnt sell the "good stuff" compared to some good specialist bike shop or online store?

Does anyone have any specific recommendations if we're spending £150-200 per bike and is there a big reason with the purpose in mind to spend say £250-300 per bike?

for that sort of money, you are better off finding the most basic bike you can find at the top of the budget. if that sounds wierd, it should.... go for the £200 bike that has no suspension, no fancy looking frame design or go faster bits, just a soild looking ordinary bike. My point is, anything with suspension etc at that price will be poor quality, heavy and prone to failure. just avoid them and stick to the ordinary. for what you describe you dont need it...

there is no point upping the budget in my opinion, you end up with bikes that are starting to look like "the real thing" but are still the sum of cheap parts.

Great fun and more sociable than two individual bikes as one of a couple is invariably much fitter than the other.

There is no greater cycling fun than hustling an MTB Tandem down a red or black route at a trail centre just to prove the doubters wrong who told you "you'll never get that down there"
