How long does it usually take to receive a tax rebate?
Discussion
Hi, I started working as an employee in January after 2 years of self employment. I filed my tax return online today and the calculation shows I will be refunded the tax I've paid through my employment Jan through April.
Can anyone give a rough estimate of how long it may take to get this refund, and am I right in thinking this will appear in my payslip rather than a cheque? Do I have to do anything else to reclaim it?
Any opinions would be appreciated.

If it is a self-assessment tax repayment for the last tax year you cannot have this 'repaid' via an adjustment to your tax code - this is only an option for collection of underpayments.
Your choices would have been either a cheque or bank transfer, the latter being much faster. If you did not specify you may find that once the return is processed the amount due back to you will sit on your statement and you might have to request it again. Keep checking back.

Thank you for the advice, there didn't seem to be any further instructions on how to claim but I'll check again today. I've only been an employee for 3 months and it's the tax I've paid during that time which is being refunded.
OK just logged in and checked, it says 'repayment pending' so I'll keep an eye on it.Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
