I've been looking out for one of these, but they seem a very rare car. I was hoping to find a black one, with full leather and wood trim, but am starting to wonder if I've got no hope! Can anyone tell me how futile my search is? Most people seem to be either diesel or 63 AMG these days and the later 500 seems, on paper at least, to be worth holding out for against the earlier 5.0 car.

So I'm looking for a needle in a haystack then! Some of those are probably 5.0 as I think the 5.5 only came in about half way through the year too and no doubt quite a few of them were in Sport guise with half leather, as opposed to SE models with leather and wood trim. Perhaps I'll just have to wait for the ML63 to depreciate a bit more. smile

Found one at MB Direct which has just arrived and hasn't even had the photos taken yet. Have bought it blind as it's 170 miles from home and I'm now going away for a week and a half. Let's hope their description of 'mint' matches mine! smile

I've bought 2 cars blind from MB direct (both Manchester) 200-odd miles from home, both were immaculate - hope you have the same experience!

How much you pay slip?

As said already, the 4ltr V8 diesel was the more popular option due to it having the same grunt and better running costs. We also picked a 2008 car and thats what we went with. I love it btw smile 500 ft of torque is just silly!

I had one for a year, lovely car with the AMG kit, airmatic etc. only just swapped it for a c350cdi Estate as the OH was finding it a bit thirsty!

Didn't realise they were that rare! Make sure you post some pics when you pick it up. thumbup

Will do!
Was yours the light blue Sport with the black half leather and above average miles?
I'm wondering I might have been lucky enough to get a facelift model, as some of the 58 plate ones are and it hadn't even crossed my mind. Not much I can do about it now anyway, other than wait and see, because it is what it is! smile

Yeah that was mine, lovely car that didn't look or feel its miles, the paintwork was literally as new and the interior didn't have a mark on it!

Be nice if it is a facelift, for the Bluetooth system alone! Do you know the rest of the spec?

I remember seeing yours advertised, first privately, then by the MB dealer. It was the last 08 500 up for sale before mine, which is Tansanite Blue with Cashmere Beige leather. I know the light leather and walnut trim is not to everyone's taste, particularly on PH, but it's what I wanted. You can find the spec of the car by doing a used car search on the MB website, but it includes 19" AMG wheels, chrome pack, sunroof and telephone pre wiring. It's listed at just under £23k and was still on there last time I checked.

If it is telephone pre-wired then I think it is pre-facelift. Its a £230 dongle from Merc or £80 off Ebay I think.

Sunroof is a good spec. We couldnt find one with a sunroof when we bought ours frown Oh and try and get the autoshutting boot!

Thanks for that, useful info. I agree the auto shutting boot is a nice touch. Dont think I've been lucky on that front, but with so few 500 5.5 SEs around, if I'd been any more choosy, I might never have found one! smile
