Noisy AC .....

I've got a Porsche 996 C4S which has a light drone/whine when the AC is running - the car has was serviced and regassed at Porsche in Glasgow about 4 weeks ago and they said after being gassed it was fine , it also appears to running cold enough too . But the whine is really annoying me, turn the AC off and the noise disappears immediately ..... Any suggestions ???

It sounds like the gas level is falling, this causes the compressor to overwork to compensate until the gas falls to the default low level and then it won't kick in anymore - noise will stop but aircon won't work.
A simple regas will be a short term fix but the root cause is a leak.
Most likely front condensors or somewhere along the pipe running along under the off side sill.
The pipe is coated but not where it goes through clamps or where it joins so it corrodes there.

You need a proper pressure test by an aircon specialist to trace the leak.

F3rnando - thanks very much for the kind reply - I'm a wee bit pissed off with Porsche Glasgow at present and I was looking for an independent AC specialist - I'll give the guy a buzz tomorrow - thanks a owe you a beer ! Cheers Barry
