I really enjoy reading about the 997 turbos & the GT3s. I drove a manual 997 turbo at Silverstone & really enjoyed it. But now I am having an ever greater desire for a GT3. Towards the end of June I will be visiting Silverstone to get behind the wheel of a GT3 for the first time. Then I will know for sure whether to upgrade my 996 turbo to a 997 turbo, or acquire a GT3 as an addition.

If I do the latter, one of my cars will have to go & that's my dilemma !

996 vs 997 turbo are not that different(at least "first gen" 997). GT3 is more "drivers" car and will out handle softer but more powerful turbos in corners. Also you will lose 4wd but most turbo Porsches feel more like rwd than ff and difference might not be that big. Much more race car feel and less roll. Engine note is also crisper with higher rpm limit. Gt3 is slower in straight line but porsches are rarely used just for drag racing. Most GT3s have roll cages so you will lose back seats in this case.(roll cage can however be used to strap luggage smile )

I've had both - 997 GT3 for three years, Turbo S for last two years. Both fantastic cars.

The GT3 is probably the most enjoyable drive, but the Turbo is phenomenal, and easier to live with day to day.

I think you will find most don,t have roll cages !!!

Club sports sold less than normal ones.

RS's on the other hand is another story.

After taking my 997 Turbo around SPA and then got a ride in my friends GT3RS I came to the conclusion that the only solution to Turbo vs. GT3 is to get both. The Turbo is the perfect road car and the GT3 is the perfect track weapon.
