Unfortunately some low-life YOB has vandalized my Porsche Carrera S cabrio ('05). Cut up the stitching on one side and then keyed the car.

They key part is less hurting as that can be painted and done nicely for a lower cost. However, the soft top - I can't find the quotes online, but the mechanic reckons about 6000 quid for it to be replaced. I'm baffled, stunned, furious and quite upset that there are such oxygen-thieves walking this planet.

Thanks everyone!

Feel for you, I dread comoing back to the same scenario and don't use it as much as I should because of precisely that.

I just hope you can claim on your insurance.

Happened to a mate of mine (the roof part), he claimed on his insurance but I'm pretty sure it wasn't £6k or does that figure include the paint repair?

Gutted for you. £6k sounds a bit strong to me for a roof though - seek a second opinion.

Oh, and remember, a small minded little that does something like that will never, ever, ever, in a million years, own a Porsche and feel the satisfaction of collecting a car like that from a dealer, safe in the knowledge that he (or she I suppose) has achieved one of their aims in life.

Oh, and if you ever catch him, break his legs.

I recently had a new 993 hood from here :

http://www.carhood.com/

and it was excellent.

The 997 item is doubtless more complicated and more expensive but the 993 one was under £1500 including a new inner lining.

So sorry to hear about this, its the real nightmare scenario for any cabriolet owner.

As a heads up to other owners, where did this happen?

By the way, I's think that £6k would be for the whole roof with mechanism etc. I am sure that just the soft top part would be considerably less (~£1.5k?).

Or if the work is done by Porsche. A think (and this was 15 months ago so memory not as good as it might be) that I was quoted £3,200 +VAT for the hood alone from an OPC when I was looking into it. Same (well, non-Porsche but proper quality) part plus the elastics and the inner, from a proper trimmer were, £815+VAT (haven't had the bill for the fitting yet as respray has taken a while...)

Some little fcensoredk just did my back window on mine. A 996, only option it seems s a complete new hood - they can't just replace the plastic window. Waiting for quotes but believe it or not classes as a glass replacement and excess is £75 even if it is complete new roof.

Thanks, will keep a note of that. Repair centre looking at original Porsche replacement of hood, although I'd prefer glass I'd probably prefer original porsche hood if at all poss.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Ok so here's the deal. The little s**t bag knifed the stitching on one of the side, but extended a 5CM cut into the middle part of the soft top. Now. I can get the stitching done for a few hundred quid. What I'm concerned about is the extra gap that they made in the middle part - will that leak water or screw up the soft top operation?

This happened in Hong Kong. Haters are found everywhere, unfortunately.

And the possibility of finding this perpetrator is as close as nil. If he was found it would be more than just 1 broken bone.

Wow, and there was me wondering where in London this had happened... would not have expected in HK.

Horrendous, my sympathy. Someone at work told me this week about how a friend's Audi had had paintstripper poured over EVERY panel. This sort of mindless vandalism just defies belief.

Ditto!

Someone of exceedingly low expectations in life spat at my £700 rusty cabrio a few years ago. I found it more funny than annoying as you'd have to think you're pretty st if you can't ever hope to afford a £700 car. Still, the poor mite's probably spending time behind bars at Her Majesty's pleasure thanks to stealing Tesco Value bread during the recent riots.
