Hi all
I'm usually found lurking on the Radical forum, so am asking for your help if you can. I've found a 2010 SLK300 which seems ideal for my partner. In researching Pistonheads/Autotrader/Merc official website I can only find about two cars. If you can help with any of the questions it would be really appreciated.
1. Why so few or are people simply hanging on to them ?
2. Was it only a short production run ( as in 3.0 ) and was quickly superseded by another engine?
3. Any known or major faults ?
4 Owt else that you can add.

Many thanks in advance and in anticipation..
David

Has it maybe been midbadged or wrongly advertised which explains why you can't find any others? I've never heard of an SLK300, SLK280 (which is a 3.0L IIRC) and SLK350 yes, but not 300.

Merc changed their model naming policy in 09 (i think). 6 cylinder models started at 300 & went up in 50's so the SLK280 became the 300, C/ML/S 320 became 350, ML 420 became 450 etc. So the 280 & 300 are the same car, later one's will be badged 300.

Thank you to both of the above replies. I was getting concerned that the car was misbadged. It was also confusing that the two merc dealers I spoke to did not mention that the 300 " did not exist" so was getting confused.
My partner is still deliberating so the next two model launches will be out before that decision gets made...........

Thanks again

I was wrong, they did exist, I've just never seen one! It appears they are the same as the SLK280 in terms of engine, power and performance, as the other poster above suggested Merc just changed the way they badged cars in 2009 so SLK280 became SLK300 - Parkers website confirms, it was nagging at me!

There's maybe not many around as those looking for a more frugal SLK will have gone for the 4 cylinder SLK200 Kompressor, those who wanted a more powerful 6 cylinder car will go for the SLK350, 3.5 litre instead of 3.0 litre, more power but probably around the same mpg.

The 2nd dealer did say that the more popular was the 3.5 so that fits with your comments of either mpg sensitive or not sensitive !
Thanks again

Now I'm geting confused....I've just bought a SLK320....so a SLK 350 is a 3.5 litre as opposed to my 3'2 litre ....is that correct ? What year was 350 released ?

The 320 was the previous R170 model, pre 2004 when the R171 came out.
