Repost from some time ago (no - not 1943).

Don't be surprised at how good colour photography was by then. Hollywood had been using top quality colour still and movie film since the early 1930s.

If you like British aircraft, check out the colour photography of Charles E Brown. He had access to Kodak stocks and took some stunning colour pictures of wartime RAf and Royal Navy aircraft -

Colour photography goes back a long time. A couple of years ago, BBC 4 ran a documentary on the pioneering colour photgraphy of Albert Kahn. Take a look at these photos and then absorb the fact that they were taken between 1909 and 1931-







These are genuine colour photographs - not hand tinted or "colourised" black and white pictures.

The Kahn archive contains thousands of photographs.

Now this is a rum bird. It looks like the designer put all his efforts into the Fury-style cowling, lost interest a bit in the middle and by the time he got to the tail he thought 'bks, that's near enough'.

And its nose made the Corsair look carrier friendly.

Isn't that just retouched?

It looks like it could be but Kahn was using an early three colour processing method and his pictures were generally genuine colour photos, not retouched black and white images.
