Is the sound I made when I went to unlock the car over the weekend...

In the lock was this

Which has left the lock looking like this

I hadnt driven the car in almost a month, so the battery was flat which may have contributed in the failed attempt to steal/break into the car. The door is still lockable with the key, but with the battery charged the remote is fine.

Should I get a new lock fitted? And if so what would be the best route to go down?

Thanks

well at least its still there - if you generally only use the remote to unlock the car - dont bother replacing it - instead invest the £££ in a shiny new . . . . . garage smile or guard-dog!

Good Luck

The lock did a good job.

If the door is still lockable with the key and the remote works, I wouldn't bother replacing it.

Personally, I would be more concerned that the would be thief might have another go using a face to face technique.

Is that a tool for the job in hand? I was originally thinking what did they expect to do to a lock with just a pointed piece of steel, however looking at it again the twisted end looks machined.

Hi,

looks like the end off a tool or something... maybe a pair of scissors?

I would change the lock out as it may be more easily tampered with now.

Could have happened a while ago - years ago my Almera GTi was had a go at, by some scoundrel - but because I used the remote I didn't realise for weeks - I then realised I'd actually caught him at it and he'd run off right in front of me and I hadn't clocked what he'd been up to.

However, yeah, I'd want to fix that - the fact that his scissors broke may be all that stopped him getting in.

I would also change the lock......perish the thought but if they come back again and they take the car, your insurance company won't be happy that the lock wasnt fixed.

Yeah thinking the same...

The piece of metal looked as though it had snapped off something larger...there was no sharp sides, so not scissors, but possibly a knife?

As said it could have happened at any point over the last few weeks...even though I walk past it everyday to work I wouldn't have noticed it.

Could be a paper knife? I'm gonna speculate, but I'd imagine your aspiring thief knows the law well enough to know that he shouldn't carry a blade or other offensive weapon as that's a crime on its own - so perhaps something very harmless to avoid getting done for possession of an offensive weapon?

Either way, get it fixed, and if you can, perhaps think about security - you can pick up real (or fake if you wish) CCTV cameras from Maplin. The fake job looks real enough and takes batteries to make the LED flash...

I bet if you ask Mr F nicely for a bit of a deal for a fellow Porsche enthusiast he'd be willing to accommodate www.cctv42.co.uk
wink

Sadly the problem with replacing the lock is that I don't think you can one to match your key, so you'll either a very big bill for changing all locks or have 2 different keys (which may not be much of an issue if it works from a remote).

Another attempted break in last night! These potential thieves are rubbish...but on a street where there are maybe 6/7 other Porsches, a couple of Ferraris and Maseratis they have my car on the radar.

I got a text from a neighbour saying that the lights were flashing and there was a person scurrying off...went out and the internal lock was half way up. Had to use the fob to get in as the key hole has kind of taken a beating!

Seems all funny that as soon as a classified advert was put up and I changed insurance company all this is happening...(it will be completely coincidental, but you still think about that stuff)

Any hoo, car is in a garage now...to see that these shenanigans come to an end!

Edited on behalf of a horrible spelling mistake!!

Yeah hope the garage will prove a little more impenetrable

This is the car,

I am also quite happy that they haven't resorted to tearing the roof!
