Having been through the CTW process, got myself a Secteur (Triple, I think, I'm a bit knackered and haven't got the order to hand. Whichever they had in "Big bd" size anyway)...

However, I need to get some consumables, since I intend on not abusing the hell out of this one. Once I get a day off to go to my LBS.

My list so far is -

GT85 or similar
Puncture repair kit, and inner tubes
Adjustable spanner to sling in my bag
Allen keys - are they standard X,Y and Zmm, or do I need to wait til it arrives and size them up?

- anything obvious I'm missing?

I already have -

Lights
Locks
Lycra arse-enhancing shorts
Hat and gloves...

A hat?!

An adjustable spanner won't be of much use on a bike, but what you will need is some chain lube such as Finish Line Silicone.

Allen keys - 4, 5 + 6mm are the most used ones, but a multi-tool with these included might be a good buy.

Tyre levers

A decent pump with clips to attach it to the frame, or CO2 cartridges. Also a track pump for home ideally.

Bottle and cage

Saddle bag. Ignore the people that insist you carry all your kit in jersey pockets.

Power link and chain tool? After snapping a chain 15 miles from home last year I would recommend spending a few pounds on both and leaving them in the saddle bag just in case.

I've also just got arm and leg warmers great for the changeable weather conditions we're getting at the moment.

ETA Pedals: don't be suprised if it doesn't have any or just comes with some stty plastic ones.

Decent safety razor and shave gel - sort your legs out. Sunnies, pack of Gaulois for the cafe moments.

Definitely a track pump. bks to pumping your fist back and forth like a teenager who's just discovered Victoria's Secret.

Have you already got clip less shoes, pedals?

Cable ties

dont bother with puncture repair kits if you are refering to the old school vulcanising glue kits, use these patches instead

this muc-off stuff is the best cleaner i have found for frames and wheels

Foot pump and decent gauge does the job wink

Clipless pedals will be a future investment, I can see there being a face-floor interface if I try them too soon.

hehe I already have legs that don't match the rest of my hairy Northern body, I suspect due to friction when biking...

I have a rucksack for work, and a small backpack for ride outs - everything bikey goes in the top pocket - then I don't forget and leave it attached to the bike. smile

The spanner was mainly for my wheels - until I remembered the invention of quick-release, which my current BSO doesn't have hehe

Thank you everyone!
