There is actrually a decent number of good micro-breweries in the US doing some damn decent beer. They had Empire brewery right in Armory square, Syracuse, with a bar attached to the brewery, and Ommegang (sp, I can never spell it right) also in NY state which I visited, and got some good stuff. Saranac is decent too.

Out of those 3 the Sierra Nevada is by far the best. It's even popping up on tap around London a bit.

The others are drinkable, better than the mainstream US fare.

Dam right! Spent 3 weeks touring California with 2 mates and we all fell in love with SN. Brewed using pure ingredients (much like German beers) so less of a hangover. We ended up thinking hangovers were banned in California!

No idea if they are a small brewery but I love Goose Island IPA, and the Honker's Ale is not bad. They do a range of beers, would like to try the Nut brown Ale. Might need a visit to Beer Ritz...

I like the American beers as they tend to be light & crisp. Blue Moon has a hint of fruit, bottle says orange peel. Tastes good but Pale Ale is also by far my favorite of the three, I have had it before. Picked it up off the shelf first; they are 3 for 2 at Tescos!
