1 week break - Non beach
Discussion
Any ideas for a one week break, would like to do a mixture of scenery/city break.
Thoughts so far - Drive to Switzerland - Genevea, Lausanne, Bern, Lucerne and Zurich?? Missing anything that I must see/do or any of these places I should avoid.
Only problem is I need to relax and not sure if a driving holiday is right for this as it means uprooting every morning to move to a different hotel. Plus the missus can't drive at the moment so it would just be me doing the driving.
Norway - not sure where to go, just know the scenery looks amazing - any suggestions are welcome. Fly and drive or fly out and train etc.?
Istanbul - Not scenic as such but plenty of sight seeing and it seems easier and more of a break because the whole week will be in the same place so the holiday is at a more leisurely pace.
Any other option/suggestions?

It may sound lame but Spain is the most mountainous country in Europe and inland Spain has some fantastic driving roads and stunning scenery of mountains and lakes and you could flit between the cities or alternatively book traditional accommodation as you go along. Places like the Alpujarras in the south and inland from Peniscola at places like Morella are amazing.
In addition, a newspaper recently said that Spain is the cheapest destination at present, beating even Turkey and Bulgaria.
Touring Mallorca is also great with so many places to see.

Iceland. Spent a week there touring round and it is phenominal. Only spent half a day in Reykjavik and another half day in the Blue Lagoon.
+1Though if the OP's after part city break I'm not sure it meets that criteria, we did the same as Roger and only spent half a day in Reykjavik, and that was plenty of time to see all of it. The scenery is what it's all about over there.

Rioja region in Spain is awesome. Fly to Bilbao then 1.5 hrs drive. Stay in Haro, Logrono, Laguardia or or the mad hotel at Marquis De Riscal, do some vineyard visits and soak up the views and gorge on great pinxtos and wine. I did something along these lines for my birthday with Mrs P and to this day was my favourite holiday. (we also went to San Sebastian which was awesome, I'#d always recommend it but is by the sea)In addition, a newspaper recently said that Spain is the cheapest destination at present, beating even Turkey and Bulgaria.

We flew to Iceland and hired a car. A lot of the roads are cinder tracks but no problem in a rented Polo, the 4x4 only roads are clearly marked and to be honest you wouldn't want to get on to the really rough stuff without some backup anyway. 4x4 tour up on to a glacier was fairly expensive but well worth doing, Blue lagoon would have been a bit expensive peak season but we were off peak (late September) and even the fancy hotel there was a decent price. Fuel prices are similar to UK, alcohol's expensive but a restaurant meal in Reykjavik with a couple of drinks wasn't really any more expensive than the UK.
After further discussions:
Iceland/Norway - we'd like to leave that to the winter so we can see the Northern Lights.
Spain - Been several times and it's always good for a beach holiday so we'd like to combine the two in the future.
Morzine looks good, but in the summer, is there enough for a week?
Main contenders seem to be tour of Switzerland or tour of Italy.
Italy looks better to me, Rome, Venice, Amalfi coast and Lake garda. But looks expensive. Anything else?
Switzerland would be (from a quick look), Zurich, Lucerne, Zermatt, Montreux.
Thanks

If you are active enough then yes. Lots of cycling (MTB and Road), walking, climbing, white water rafting, swimming (pools and lakes), tennis...Geneva, Chamonix and Annecy not too far away....
I'm looking forward to my trip

Garda gets another vote.
Verona and Venice about an hour's drive away - 100 mile drive around the lake with lovely towns as you go and some great driving roads up in the mountains.
What more could anyone want?
Alternatively, how about Havana - That's where I'm going in the summer

Havana is a proper holiday, Europe doesn't count as a holiday so that means I can go on more!Verona and Venice about an hour's drive away - 100 mile drive around the lake with lovely towns as you go and some great driving roads up in the mountains.
