What I'm really after is something that has a small efficiency benefit, and possibly smooths out the delivery - rather than out and out performance improvement.

Anyone know of any / tried one / can recommend?

Thanks
Dom

Superchips list one.
Google is your friend.

£399 for 15hp and a bit more torques.

I know no more than that !

Start by changing the secondary cats into bypasses.
This gives you +17HP, an improved throttle response and a better sound.

'chipping' a naturally aspirated petrol engine is very rarely going to give any significant benefits. Chipping forced induction cars is very different as you can 'turn up' the turbo etc to give more power. An NA's engines power/delivery is really defined by the physical parts more than the electronic brain (displacement, cams, induction system, exhaust...)

^^^^^^^ disagree. I gained 11 bhp just fitting a steve wong chip to a 3.2 Carrera. Dynoed before fitting and after.

Useful tip chap... Have you been lurking in the bottom of my wardrobe again - If you happen to have any Adidas Gerd Muller (size UK11) do give me a yell wink

M030 - Whats the implications come MOT time having fiddled with the pipes?

I would love to hear a little more 'rumble' from the the ol girl!

This is also very interesting...

I removed the pre-silencer to 'open things up' a little - but hadnt thought to mess with anything else on the 3.2.

But anyway - Back to the Cayenne:

Any of you chaps have any further info on the MOT situ if I were to consider bypassing the above mentioned part of the exhaust?

Im still in 2 minds re the wheels on the car too, its on 22's at the moment, and every little stone in the road is translated through to me in the drivers seat... and with the number of speed bumps, pot holes and generally appauling roads around, it can become a little tiresome.

It does however hang on in the twisties for such a big car driving

With a secondary cat bypass there are no problem for smog checks as the lambda sensors are on the primary cats. This has been done since 9 years and I never heard of anyone in europe that didn't pass emission checks.

I said any SIGNIFICANT gains... 11 bhp isn't really significant when you are talking 300+bhp already. Also was this across the entire engine rev range? Or just the 'peak' figure? In which case I'd guess it came from them tweaking the rev limit up a little.

Unless the OEM has installed a very under performing map into the ECU (for emmisions or marketing reasons) I stand by my case that 'chipping' an NA engine will give very little. If the engine is running the correct mixture across all the load/rev points in the map what can a new map do different to get more power?

11bhp from a 231bhp is a decent increase, although more is usually possible if done properly on a rolling road. Wayne at Chipwizards usually gets them above 250bhp with improved torque etc too.

I was reading a newspaper article this morning showing how many cars are nowhere near as economical as the sales patter that goes with them (e.g. claimed 76mpg, actual 52mpg). Wayne once told me that for some cars (Citroen I think, his brother worked at a dealer) the factory spec, on which the official measurements are made, is usually over-written by the dealer as part of the PDI, meaning it'll never return the claimed mpg but will drive much better. This makes some sense of the newspaper article to me.

In a 2000kg truck you would want another 100hp before you took any notice...!
Your best performance option is to throw all the seats out that you dont use, and leave the dog at home....;)

Seriously, you will get a better bhp/kg figure than any map just by jetwashing the mud out from under the arches.!

You didn't read the article then ?

It is the testing EEC methodology which give such unrealistic numbers. eg EEC method says "drive at 50kph and accelerate to 100kph. repeat 10 times"
So manufacturer test drivers do this but accelerate using absolute minimum throttle ie 50-100kph in 60 seconds smile
Usual box ticking bullst which permeates so much of life nowdays and is easily fiddled.....

If you go by the "urban" EEC fuel consumption number it is usually about right for what an average driver will achieve in normal varied use.

Having said the above I was really pissed off with my new VW 1.4TSi hack whose urban is 33mph and combined apparently 43mpg.... If anyone can get more than my 26mpg average out of this fker I'll give them the bloody car furious

Joking obviously but this supercharged + turbocharged 1.4 engine has been driven "just so" for its EEC tests and bares zero resemblance to on road performance, good job fuel is so cheap rolleyes

BTW not doubting what Wayne's brother says about map changes but dodn't think it is primary reason.

How much should I expect to pay for this?
