Well I was trying to sort out my unit today which was well overdue, anyway stuck over the back was my two old motorbikes, a 1976 Ducati 860GT and a 1956 Aerial 500 single, finally decided that I need to sell them as they are just taking up valuable storage space, and as not been used for past 12 years the time has come.

Anyway when I got them out what was sitting on the Aerial? A number plate with 3 initials followed by 991, shame I don't have a 991 to put it on lol.

If anyone has any ideas the best place to sell them it would be appreciated, they have both been in dry storage but obviously need some love and care to bring back to health.

Don't think you'll be able to sell the plates unless the bikes get MOT'd first but I could be wrong smile

Shouldn't the thread title read 'What a non-coincidence!!'?

Not sure 3 initials followed by 991 would really be worth the hassle would it?

you need to check it out. I'm sure that a reg plate registered to a motor cycle cannot be transferred to a car or vice versa or I maybe talking cobblers.

It can. When my mate moved to Miami, he transferred his car reg onto my bike - and when he came back, I transferred it back to him.

Unless the rule is somehow different for an original bike reg.

Yeah, you can do it nowadays. You didn't used to be able to but the rules changed a good few years back.

OP, do you have the Log Book for the Ariel?

Similar thing with me, I've got hold of LOH 991, I did think about selling it but I quite like it (the miss' says it stands for Laura's Other Half).

But realisticly an original 3 letter 3 number plate is really only worth a grand, unless it's really common or interesting initials (LOH isn't) or an interesting 3 numbers. 991 is debatable, 911 definatly is, so is say, 360, 999, 123....... You get my drift wink

I could've marketed mine as "say 'ello to the new 991 with this great none dating plate" but I doubt anyone would see that & think I must buy it!

Like I say, unless it's a great 3 letters, ask 1500 & be prepared to drop smile

Oh & yes, the vehicle it's being transferred from must have a current MOT, V5 & tax disc. If no tax disc is available the vehicle must be listed as SORN or have been taxed within the previous 12 months thumbup
