Hi again, seems like I once again need advice regarding cayman ownership.
Today after some long motorway journeys I notices a rattling from the rear passenger side, it seems to be coming from just above the rear passenger side wheel arch (although very hard to pin point)

It only seems to make an appearance occasionally for approx. 5 second stints at speeds between 40-50mph. Also it's very hard to replicate and just when you think it's gone it comes back with a vengeance.

It's not the cayman boot rattle (I don't think) as it is a very clunky clanky noise (i.e clunk clunk clank clank). Has anyone come across this?

Will be taking it to the OPC when I get a chance but would appreciate your thoughts

I strongly advise against driving that until it's been looked at. I know fk all about Caymans but I wouldn't drive it if it's making the mechanical nosies you're suggesting. Keep us posted!

In an attempt to be more helpful than the previous poster, the fact that the noise is intermitent and only at a certain rev range would suggest that it is not something to be too concerned about, but should be checked out nevertheless. It could be something like an exhaust heat shield.

If it's what I've heard now and again it was possible the air box. My mechanic had a fiddle and tighten bits up and put some padding in there. I hear it literally once in a while if I've been down a bumpy track.

Is it definitely not an interior trim rattle?

Also helps to know how smooth the roads are when this is happening.

If you can, get the OH or a friend to come with you for a brief drive and try and see if they can assist in pinpointing it a little more.

I think the air box may be a good call as it noise does seem to appear after a ride on a bumpy track or hitting pothole... But as I say very hard to replicate... Happens when it feels like it

I don't think it's engine related as noise definitely seems to be coming from the rear passenger side wheel arch (have checked for any obstructions but nothing)... I'm having a lazy sunday so will put it to the back of my head and worry about it next week when I have time to visit the OPC. I just get a feeling I will be fobbed off as sods law will dictate the noise won't make an appearance frown

I'll keep you guys posted, off to read the ' Woke up, and decided to Drive to Spain' post now to remind myself of the joys of cayman ownership biggrin

I had a rattle like that. It ended up to be the rear light housing inside the boot.
