Before I visit Henry at 911virgin.com has anyone taken a look at the 2 turbo's he has for sale? Has anyone had experience with the guys at Portiacraft in Mill Hill?

No. But I think Henry can be a bit of a tit sometimes. His missus is v friendly and courteous though. But as for Tom! He normally sails close to a battering.

Henry's cars are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I have never been overly impressed with his cars or attitude... just his prices. He is often cagey about stuff you would expect him to be in a position to know about.

Good choice of car, though. A 993RS would be an even better use of 44k mind you

I nearly bought a 993 from Portiacraft last week. If you had asked me this question on Monday, I would have said that I hadn't had a good experience with them. But they turned out to be very genuine, at least in returning my deposit, and if I was looking for a 993 again, I'd probably go back to them.

Never dealt with Portiacraft but many who have said that they are a little iffy? Their prices don't seem that cheap considering, and I rarely see many of their cars being sold. That said, they have been there for a long while, at least 10 years that I have seen anyway. I think if you are going to buy from independant garages, get it checked over by Porsche or specialist. Also, check how much difference between official garage and independant as the warranty might be worth the extra couple of grand. And the condition of the car will also be to a very high standard.

Good Luck

Turbofree, I'f you're interested my colleague may be selling his 1996 Turbo 4, it is midnight blue with marble leather, he is the 3rd owner, around 40,000 miles, full main dealer history, all the extras and he's looking for about £47,000 (I reckon he'd do a bit better though). Its absolutely immaculate and mentally quick!

Now THAT sounds more like it. And you'll save yourself from being patronised by Tom and Henry.

Bugger off, it's a 414i

Thom - no, not an ex-boss of Porsche GB (far too young at 28!). I know 'a little about a lot' because I've owned a couple of Porsches, driven a handful more, and know people that have run them. I did do a bit of work for Mercedes, BMW and Bentley in a work capacity, though, so that has given me a glimpse into the workings of the car industry.

I test drove the one Torbo (Beats me which one) with Henry (Henry will never let you drive either) NOT IMO a good buy, I also agree that he can be very patronising and even a little overbearing.

I was almost put off buying a Porsche by that visit (thats another story though).

Eventually bought a 964 from somewhere else for a little more but am extremely happy I did!

Hehe - stories involving Henry's attitude almost deserve a thread of its own, but I'm not sure PetrolTed will allow us to recount our experiences here.

Maybe the meet on the 23rd will be a good time to compare notes
