Thoughts on these 996 Turbo's
Discussion
Hi All,
I am starting down the road of looking for either a 996 Turbo or 997 C2. I am test driving both on Monday so will have a better idea which road I want to go down.
I am looking to spend around £25k and would be looking for a 2002+ under 70K miles well sorted and looked after Turbo or a 05/06+ 997 with around 50k or so miles.
In the meantime I just wanted to get your thoughts on these 2:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-996-Turbo-20...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-3-6-auto-200...
Both Seem like good prices for a decent mileage/condition examples.
Cheers!

Well, manual or auto will make the choice for you.
The second one (if all the photos are the same car) has two different number plates and two sets of wheels. It is badged as a Turbo S, but it can't be, as the Turbo S didn't come out until 05. It *may* be a standard turbo with the X50 power upgrade, and a previous owner has decided to do some self re-badging. You'd need to check the bonnet sticker or the service book for the options list to see whether X50 is there.
Personally, leaving aside personal preferences such as interior and exterior car, I'd go to the first one first. I'd want to see whether (a) any work recommended by PM was carried out; (b) whether it has been serviced by the current owner; (c) how long ago the PM inspection was; (d) how well-spaced the services are.
The possibly aftermarket wheels and Kenwood stereo on the second one would put me off, TBH. So would the dealer. I don't know anything about that dealer, but a quick scoot around his website reveals that this car is this third most valuable on sale; and he's not an obvious Porsche specialist. In my world Specialist Porsche Indy > well cared for private example > non specialist trader.

What kind of not certificate is shown in the pics of the black one? Also looks as though has had a new key. Why would that be? Or just for fashion maybe?
Looks a nice car though.
That is the kind of MOT you will get next time - no fancy certificate anymore as it is all online for interested parties to check.Looks a nice car though.
Some people change the outer part of the key to the more modern one - you just move over the guts to a new shell.
If the interior looks better in the flesh i would go for the black one as it looks the most honest car of the two.
The grey one is not an 'S' as you can see that the s has been added on later so the badges are not centred on the boot lid.
It also claims to have 414bhp, an S or X50 should have 440bhp. Check the intercoolers, under bonnet sticker and service book to determine exact spec.
I hear the Arctic silver ones are the fastest

I get the issues with the grey one but the black one looks pretty clean.
Dont know anything about locating services, I am assuming they will get the right car and ensure it is sound etc?

Neither, sorry. Too may little issues going on that would put me off. There are plenty more out there; have you thought of using a 'locating service'? Good luck!
The black one is a good few £K less than most of the others I have seen in similar spec etc.

Spend a few more £k and get one with a lot less miles, will help when it comes to resale, otherwise you risk having a
80/90k mile car in a year or two which will be difficult to sell for anything decent
